Canon Question

Hi All - I have 2 Canon Questions

1. I just got a Canon Rebel EOS T1i and am curious what kind of skins/bags you all prefer for this camera... I'm not a huge photog.. just enjoy taking family photos and want to get into playing around with some creativity so I don't need professional gear, just reliable/easy to use. I currently have the body, the standard 18-55 EF-S lens and the EF 75-300mm lens

2.I have a Canon Rebel 2000 EOS (Film not digital) I haven't really used it in years.. mainly cuz I hate messing with film... I'm thinking of listing it on craigs list or ebay or something and don't know a reasonable amt to ask for it or if it would even be worth my time to list it.... a. would you buy a film camera or has all the world pretty much gone digital and b. if you would what would be what you would consider reasonable to pay for one.. very good condition just a few years old. I'm not trying to sell here, just get opinions from obvious camera "geeks".

camera bags are like religions and politics, everyone has their opinion. Some VERY reliable brands to consider are Crumpler and LowePro, there are some others too and are all expensive. But first you have to figure out how you are going to carry your camera (back pack, bag, belt, etc) I have quite a few bags including back packs and huge bags for lighting and the like each with it's purpose. I'd really consider taking your camera to a camera shop and looking at what's available.

As for the 2000 EOS film body, you might consider donating it to a local college that teaches photography, photography students often like toying with film cameras, plus the tax deduction is nice. Otherwise, the body it's self MIGHT be worth $40. You can check KEH.com which is a used camera dealer for reasonable pricing. Truth is, if it has a lens, the lens it's self might be worth more than the camera!

I have to agree with Albert on the camera bag. I personally have a crumpler backpack laptop/camera case. It works great, but I find that with my new work laptop, its a bit small. Richmond Camera sells several different camera bags/backpacks/cases and I try to go through them for a lot of the little stuff. Nothing like supporting the local economy.

I am going to go this weekend to look at bags.. good suggestions.

I really like the ideal of donating to a charity or school or something. The body does have a lens.. I forget the exact info on the lens but know it is different then the 2 new ones I have.. I attached it to my new camera last night and took a few practice shots and it appears to work... I'll check into donating as a whole somewhere...that's a great suggestion. Thanks!

I tried donating my old Pentax K1000 film SLR to the local highschool and they didn't want it. Back in the day that was the standard high school photography camera but now they gone 100% digital. They still teach aperture, shutter speed, etc. But now instead of cameras and darkrooms, its cameras and Lightroom. (get it? I made a little photoshop joke there. ).

If you decide to donate post a notice at a local college in the art department. Where I'm at they do still teach film in college. That's all photo 1 is so there's a lot of kids trying to get thier hands on 35mm SLR's at the beginning of each semester and you're very likely to make one very happy.

I don't carry a bag often, but when I do it's a Crumpler or Tamrac. Usually I have my camera around my neck though (Crumpler Industry Disgrace straps rock) and I use a Lenscoat body bag to keep it from getting knocked about.
