Canon Powershot A640...The Good/Bad or Anything

Hi All
I am new to this board.

I am ready to retire my old 35mm camera so I am in the market for a digital camera. I never owed a digital camera before so this is all new to me.

I have been researching a bit & I think I have the basics down.
Although there are some camera out there I would really like, I am trying to stay below $350 for a camera.

Does any one have any good/bad things to say about the Canon Powershot A640?

I want a camera that will take great pictures! (of course!)
I mostly take family shots, indoor and outdoor. Not too many action shots, athough sometimes I might take some pictures of my son's sporting events.
Most of the time my camera is used for family events/vacations or holidays.

I would love to hear what people think of the Canon Powershot A640 or if anyone has any other ideas what might be a better camera.

For your price range, I would go with the Canon S3 IS or A710. You should be able to find them for $350 or less.
