Canon P&S stuck!!

DD just called - she's in New Orleans and her camera turns on, but the screen is black and the flash doesn't work. I thought she needed new batteries, but she said she already tried that. I told her to tap it gently, maybe it was just stuck....still not working. Any ideas?

What model does she have? Sounds like the black screen of death due to a bad sensor to me and it's been a problem with a number of Canon cameras. I had it with my A610 but Canon refused to fix it due to the A610 not being one of the listed models as having this problem, we were on a cruise when it happened but fortunately I had my dSLR with me so it didn't ruin our picture taking (except we have an u/w housing so no u/w pictures that trip).

Thank you! I checked the Canon website...it's an older model, A75 Powershot - and it's listed there. Luckily the friend she's with has a working camera, so she'll just have to get copies. I guess I should tell her to stop tapping it!!

I'm not sure abou that particular model, but some of my Canon p&s cycle through different displays when you press the display button. With each press of the button it cycles through a screen with nothing but the image, a screen with the image and an overlay of the settings, and a black screen.

Given that the flash is also not working, I'm inclined to believe that it's more than just the display button.
