We are leaving for our vacation in 4 days. My aunt just called me and said that her pharmacy will not refill her perscriptions before she leaves with us on our trip. We are using ME and will not have a vehicle to get to a pharmacy. Is there still a pharmacy that delivers perscription medication to WDW? Thanks for your help!

Have her call her physician. He can authorize early refills of the prescriptions.

Just call the Pharmacy. They can get an early authorization for vacation by calling the insurance company. We have done this several times with no problem.

The front desk at the hotel will give you the number and will even deliver the order to your room (you just pay via credit card).

as a pharmacist i want to clarify that it is not always true that your doctor can call to get you an early refill or that your insurance will pay for it. some but not all insurance policies cover early refills (it all depends on your individual policy that was negociated, everyone is different) & if it is a controlled drug that can not be filled early. i'm not saying your aunt is trying to be shifty, but it is amazing how many people need an early refill because of "vacation" :sad2: !!

if her insurance company won't authorize an early vacation refill, depending on how nice her pharmacist is maybe they can let her know the exact day they can fill it (it may be within the next 4 days) or if they can give her a few pills to hold her until she gets home (again, depending on the medication & how nice her pharmacist is ;) ). if you do need to get it filled in florida just make sure you verify that her insurance is accepted at the store in florida and how they need to get the prescription (by phone or do they need an original). she may also be better off just paying cash at home for a vacation supply to avoid any hassles. or one last thought, maybe the doctor has some samples that he may be able to give her to hold her over.

i'm sorry if this sounds complex, but the juggling between patients, pharmacists, doctors, insurance companies & then don't forget to add in the federal and state laws that there just seems to be lots of "red tape" when it comes to filling a prescription. most of the time the pharmacist gets blamed when a script can't get filled, but we are just abiding by the rules of everyone else!

hope you have a great vacation!!:wizard: :wizard:

I just had something similar happen-

Our insurance company has a "meds in the mail" program that we use for a couple of our on-going meds. (please note- as mickeymom brought up- these are not controlled meds, we cannot use the meds-in-the-mail for those) Anyway, there was a problem with the shipping and my refill didn't come on time. It was going to be a couple more days and I was out of meds. I went to the dr office, and after explaining, they did write a script to cover for a couple of days, but it did take two hours and talking to several different people to get it done. Now, they weren't going to do a whole months worth, just enough to get me through, which was fine with me because the "meds in the mail" is alot cheaper than the local pharmacy and I didn't really want to buy more than I needed anyway. The insurance company did not allow me to use the insurance for those temporary meds (even though it was their shipping that messed it up in the first place) but better to pay full price than to run out.

Will she have a paper script to give a phamacy or will the dr call in a script to Florida? I am just wondering how the pharmacy in Florida will know what to fill. Some pharmacies like Walgreens I know they can access scripts from other stores, but a smaller pharmacy wouldn't be able to do that.

There is a pharmacy that will deliver to the hotel. Go to the front desk. You may need to have your dr call the script into them, or have the pharmacy transfer the script to them. The pharmacy is wonderful. They actually just charged mine to my room account for me--no cc needed.

They will also deliver NON prescription meds if you ever need. In my case I left my prescription Allergy med at home but can substitute an over the counter one if I need to for a few days. Since it was easiest that is what I did.

you also need to see if all the needed meds are allowable to be filled in florida. not sure how that state works, but when we traveled to hawaii we found that despite having an existing refillable perscription on file with a national store, some meds were not legaly able to be refilled. got back and asked our pharmacist in california about it and he confirmed that some, mostly those deemed controlled (mine was the lowest level of tylenol and codene) could not be filled outside the state the perscription was created in.
