as a pharmacist i want to clarify that it is not always true that your doctor can call to get you an early refill or that your insurance will pay for it. some but not all insurance policies cover early refills (it all depends on your individual policy that was negociated, everyone is different) & if it is a controlled drug that can not be filled early. i'm not saying your aunt is trying to be shifty, but it is amazing how many people need an early refill because of "vacation"

!!
if her insurance company won't authorize an early vacation refill, depending on how nice her pharmacist is maybe they can let her know the exact day they can fill it (it may be within the next 4 days) or if they can give her a few pills to hold her until she gets home (again, depending on the medication & how nice her pharmacist is

). if you do need to get it filled in florida just make sure you verify that her insurance is accepted at the store in florida and how they need to get the prescription (by phone or do they need an original). she may also be better off just paying cash at home for a vacation supply to avoid any hassles. or one last thought, maybe the doctor has some samples that he may be able to give her to hold her over.
i'm sorry if this sounds complex, but the juggling between patients, pharmacists, doctors, insurance companies & then don't forget to add in the federal and state laws that there just seems to be lots of "red tape" when it comes to filling a prescription. most of the time the pharmacist gets blamed when a script can't get filled, but we are just abiding by the rules of everyone else!
hope you have a great vacation!!
