Canine Americans?

Well...she doesn't believe any animal should be kept as "pets", so I imagine the infringement of rights is not too far out of her mind.

Right.
PETA president and co-founder Ingrid Newkirk has described her group’s overall goal as “total animal liberation.” This means no meat, no milk, no zoos, no circuses, no wool, no leather, no hunting, no fishing, and no pets (not even seeing-eye dogs). PETA is also against all medical research that requires the use of animals.

PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases. PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.”

The only time I heard the expression "Canine American" was in the movie Cat In The Hat with Mike Meyers. Remember, when he wanted Alec Ballwin to sign his petition with the big, giant oversized pen? He had to take the dog from Alec and said he prefered they be called "Canine Americans". I always thought that was so funny! ;)

The president of PETA suggested (jokingly--or maybe not ;) ) that this is what we should start calling dogs.
Some people really have too much time on their hands!

I've learned that the PETA people are, um, a bit OUT THERE...and NOT in a good way. I mean I heard them saying on a documentary that dogs should not be leashed...ok, so we should just let them run loose and be hit by cars? Yeah, good idea...that's definitely in the best interest of the animal.

So would I need to get both of mine cleared by INS? One is half German Shepard, and one is a Newfoundland.

Yes, he was 13 1/2, and I had to put him down in July. He looked like he didn't feel well so I took him right to the vet. All of his systems were just shutting down. Thanks for asking about him.

Ingrid Newkirk does not mind if people have pets as long as they adopt them from a shelter or a shelter like place. She likes the term Companion Animal better than pet. Ingrid Newkirk does not like puppy mills and she does not believe that people should breed animals. Check out this link http://www.peta.org/about/faq-comp.asp

We at PETA very much love the animal companions who share our homes, but we believe that it would have been in the animals' best interests if the institution of "pet keeping"—i.e., breeding animals to be kept and regarded as "pets"—never existed. The international pastime of domesticating animals has created an overpopulation crisis; as a result, millions of unwanted animals are destroyed every year as "surplus." This selfish desire to possess animals and receive love from them causes immeasurable suffering, which results from manipulating their breeding, selling or giving them away casually, and depriving them of the opportunity to engage in their natural behavior. Their lives are restricted to human homes where they must obey commands and can only eat, drink, and even urinate when humans allow them to.

I appreciate your care and concern for animals, FC...but this organization tends to go WAAAAY over the top.

I allready know that Peta feels that animals should never have been Pets in the first place. But you see some people believe that Peta does not even want people to adopt animals from shelters so I was just explaining that this was not true.

DH and I own an Amish taco terrier. You wonder what in praytel that is? We obtained her from an Amish family in Kalona, IA and Lucy's mommy is a toy fox terrier and her daddy is a chihuahua. The point is Lucy is an Amish taco terrier and I do not want anyone to offend her. :thumbsup2
