Anybody know if this is ok? :confused3
My mother is coming with us in September and due to a recent stroke she walks with a cane, its not the fold up kind its a wooden one if that makes a difference. Oh and also we are flying southwest, again not sure if that makes a difference. But any info would be helpful, thanks in advance! :thumbsup2

There should no be a problem. My MIL has a Quad cane. Due to her stroke she cannot walk w/out it. They have to allow it. Check w/ the airline and see what they do w/ it after they board.

The FAs will put the cane in the overhead for your mother.

You might want to get wheelchair assitance for her. If you let SW know they will have a wheelchair wating at your destiination. MCO is HUGE so that might help

They put your cane in the overhead bin on SWA. It doesn't matter if it is a folding one or a wooden one.

Mobility assistance devices (e.g. cane, walker, crutches) ARE allowed on the plane in the passenger compartment and do NOT count toward one's carry-on limit. Her cane WILL now need to be put through the x-ray machine at security. At her/your request, a TSA Agent will assist her through the passenger machine, or, depending on the airport, if you take CarolA's advice at request a wheelchair when you get to the airport, she MAY be able to stay in the chair and be wanded or patted down instead.

Thanks so much everyone!

I will take the advice of the wheelchair, thanks CarolA :goodvibes

This will be nothing to joke about at the airport, but on the TSA website it specifically says that canes that contain a hidden sword inside are NOT permitted inside the aircraft cabin.

So you may want to double-check before she walks into the airport .... :rotfl:

Funny thing - I'm thinking about getting a lucite cane :teeth: I wanted green ("my" color) but a completely clear one should be less trouble...
