Candy Canes

I read somewhere that the holiday season is being extended to the first week of January also. Does this mean that they may add on a Candy Cane day also? We may be going that first weekend and if I could get a candy cane I think I could die happy. Just kidding... sort of!!

Got our candy canes today! We headed over a little late, there were some pretty good lines at the turnstiles but we rushed down to the Candy palace and there was quite a line, but we got our wristbands and there were lot's behind us who did too. nice thing was they handed them out then and we still had to wait for rope drop so did not miss any ride time at all!! You have to wait there for rope drop anyway, might as well wait in the candy cane line! :) I think we got to the turnstile about 7:30 or a bit after. and yes they do taste yummy especially when they are still warm! not as sweet as a store bought cane, more minty :santa:

This may be the ONLY thing that I am able to stomach on our trip to DL. Been a rough couple months and the trip has actually been and still in jeopardy. I so so want the candy cane though. It is something that I don't want to miss. Will be doing all the finally planning and prep this week and this is the top of the priority for me.

OK so now after re-reading this thread I am a little concerned. When I was first planning this trip and figuring out the itinerary and what we were going to do, my hope was my health would be much better. Well, now that everything has happened the way it has....I won't be able to"dash" over to the Candy Cane line and guarantee my spot. Yes, I have 2 kids and there are 2 other adults....but all but the kids are in ECV's...mine not by choice, but the only way the doctors will even let me go. How likely is it that with being in ECV's and trying to get to the Candy Palace to get the wristband that we will actually be able to get them? I know the ECV;s only go so fast and a person can go way faster...this is the only thing that I really care about getting and even seeing. I am not all that concerned about fast passes, making sure we get fp for shows or anything like that...we are going to be there long enough it isn't a big concern....but Candy Canes will only be made the one day we are there. I think this is the one time that I wish I was NORMAL and could "dash" over and get a wristband. Another thing that my disability may hinder my children from being able to get the full experience. Please ease my stress and assure me that we will be able to get to enjoy this experience.

You could try getting the other adults not in ECVs to do the dashing, then save spaces for you. This happened a little when I was there. The CMs won't give out vouchers unless all your party is there, but there will probably be a line in front anyway, giving the rest of you time to catch up :thumbsup2

I was lucky enough to get candy canes when I visited DL this last quick trip. It was my 2yo DD, myself and a friend with a 2yo DD. We got to the turnsiles at 7:15am and had about 8 people in front of us in the line we choose. There was alot of folks there already on the Downtown Disney side of the gates. At about 7:20, CM started getting ready and opening the gates. They let every line up into two groups and I was #4 in my newly formed line. The CM started to scan people's tickets. I had my stroller, so I was let in the stroller pass line with no one in front of me. Our tickets were scanned and we were set to make into the park. Another CM picked a couple families to help "open" the park. The families and CM counted down from 10 and they let everyone go. At that point, it was a mad dash for the Candy Palace. I was running at full speed past the tree and just about to the Candy Palace. Then, of course, we were told to slow down and walk. (I can't believe I did that! It was kind of fun! Maybe I should do a marathon...) Well after all of that I was still #15-20 in line for the candy canes. They told everyone that parties could not "skip" to the front of the line to join back up and everyone had to stop where they ended up. My friend was about 10 people behind me. They started handing out wrist bands very soon after the line was formed. I got the first batch and was told to come back at 9:30am. My friend also got the first batch. We then walked over to the rope. It was about 7:45.

I got our very large candy canes and they were $13.95 each. (one for each person). They are wrapped in plastic, bubble wrap and a large Disney bag folded up to protect it. I hand carried one home - a 13 hour trip to ensure that it did not break. I got it home in one piece and my 9 yo DD dropped it about an hour after I walk though the door. :scared1: :sad1: :sad2:
My other candy cane did not survive the trip home and was broken in 3 pieces ( I kind of wanted it to be broken, so I would feel bad about eating it!)

All in all, it was a fun exprience and I can now say I got a candy cane from Disneyland. However, I don't think I will join the madness to do it again.

All of the adults in their group are using ECVs; see next quote:

... all but the kids are in ECV's...

I had one Candy Cane day on my quickie trip, unfortunately it was the morning I was flying in, so I didn't even get to the parks until after 11am.

I did however stop by the Candy Palace window & get these 2 pics:

I would have loved taking one of these home. I did stop back in around 3pm to ask what they do with the ones that aren't claimed (which rarely happens)....they said you can always come back in after 4pm & check. They are all to be picked up by then. I guess if someone doesn't come back, they will sell it to the first customer to ask for one. I didn't get back there after 4pm......but it didn't really sound like any of them were sitting around unclaimed at that point (at least that's the indication the CM's were giving).

I'm not sure about the upcoming Candy Cane dates, but when we were there last week on the 12th, we were able to get to the park at 8:15AM and still get our wristbands.

It was the one thing I really wanted to do while we were there and I was positive that we wouldn't have to set an alarm since we would probably still be on Eastern time. I originally woke up at 5:30 and thought that we would get there super early with no problem, so I decided to just lay there for a little while longer until it was time to hop in the shower. The next thing I know, it's 7:35 and I realized that I fell back to sleep.

DH and I jump out of bed and take our showers, get dressed and run out the door towards the park. Granted, it was the nasty day when it rained ALL DAY LONG, so I'm sure that affected park attendance, but I was super happy and thrilled that we were still able to get ours.

Holy cow I didnt' realize there was a "thing" about the candy canes!? My DH bought the last 3 they had on Sunday last week while we waited for the parade and I had a fit when I found out there were $14 each! Seriously? We watched the 3:30 parade and were seated just down from the candy shop, he walked in and picked them up, no voucher no lines.. :confused3 I had NO IDEA like I said they were so expensive and when he brought them back I handed each DD one and they ate them during the parade, of course they were all broken before the parade was over and stuffed into a bag, now they are sitting in my kitchen cabinet, lol What a waste.

They also have large $13 candy canes that were NOT made fresh in the park that day in the candy shop. I'm not saying the ones you got were not since they sell any that were not claimed at 4pm or so I've heard, but it is more likely they were the other kind.
