Candy Cane Inn or HoJo?

We're thinking of taking our first family trip DL next year and trying to decide where to stay. I'm the only one in the family who has been to DL before, but that was 25 years ago when there was only one park and one onsite hotel. While I'd love to stay onsite, the difference in price would cover the majority of our plane tickets. I think we've narrowed it down to the HoJo or Candy Cane. Since we're on the East Coast, we've been to WDW many times and usually stay onsite at a moderate there. I would appreciate any feedback or advice. Thanks!

I have stayed at both. HoJo's is nicer for sure but CCI is well kept and very quaint and it feels good to be there. HoJo's is roughly the same distance but CCI has a shuttle that runs reliably every 30 minutes and will help save your legs. HoJo's will feel closer to a WDW moderate - maybe a slight step up. CCI will feel maybe a slight step down.

CCI has a generous continental breakfast. I do not know about HoJo's but I do not think they have that.

I personally lean towards CCI between the two.

Good luck!

I too have stayed at both. Both are great places to stay. If your kids were younger I would recommend HOJOs because of their water feature. However, CCI does have breakfast and the shuttle.

Years ago that one was a toss-up for me, but I have become a very loyal Hojo customer since. CCI is nice for the continental breakfast and the shuttle if you have people who aren't up to extra walking. I find Hojo more comfortable overall though. The rooms are more spacious and the beds are way more comfortable to me, plus I prefer the hotel interior corridors over the motel experience.

I've stayed at both several times each. I prefer the beds and sheets at HoJo by far. CCI is quaint and quiet and has the breakfast. HoJo has nicer rooms and pools. Honestly, I think you'd be fine with either one. I'd go based on price and whether you'd use the shuttle and/or breakfast or not.

CCI is my preference, especially if I can swing a premium room (breakfast delivered to the room, amenities basket, bathrobes, etc.). The private shuttle runs on time, the staff is very friendly, the location works well for us. CCI is right next door to the ABC Mart, the 7-11 is next to that, and the 24/7 CVS is right across the street from that. So convenient if you forget/need to pick up something. On the other hand, the HoJo has a better pool for little kids.

Hojo all day long. After my last stay at Candy Cane I would not recommend it to anyone. I'm sure someone will say they love it but I cannot stand that place. Hojo Hojo Hojo.

Hojo has indoor hallways. Wins for us on that alone. Also has Mimi's next door- non resort priced (and good) food. Do wish it had a shuttle though. We stay at AKL at WDW so I can't compare it to a moderate but we are happy there.

For us, its always the CCI. We have not stayed at the Hojo, so I cant compare the two. We are die hard, play all day, stay until they kick us out type. So, at 12:30am we really do not want to face what feels like a long walk back to our hotel. We love the shuttle. Its dependable. The drivers are friendly. The breakfast they offer is enough to get us going in the morning. While we love breakfast food, we are not morning eaters. So, the pastries, fruit and yogurt are plenty for us. The hojo does have a great pool if you have young kids. We are not really pool people. We might spend a few minutes a couple times during a trip, but the pool is not important to us. We've had trips that we did not put a swimsuit on the entire time.

The CCI was built about a year after Disneyland. The owner was a man who's family had immigrated from Turkey when he was young. He followed a dream and jumped on the Disney support band wagon and built the motel. It is still owned by the same family. I'm sure they could make a fortune if they were willing to sell! That is some prime property.

TOTALLY agree! And the beds and pillows are SO comfortable at Hojos =)

This is totally us too. It is our go to place to stay when at DLR. Never stayed at Hojos either because once we found CCI, we just wanted to keep coming back. You can look at the pics in the CCI review thread in my sig. I think I started it in 2009 or 10, but the pics pretty much show what's it is like and I think I put in some updates later.

We've stayed at both several times. Usually Hojo is our warm weather hotel because our youngest loves the splash park. We stay at CCI when it's cooler and we won't be swimming. Between the two I definitely prefer Hojo, though. Their customer service is top notch. The rooms we've had at Hojo have always been more spacious than CCI, but both have comfortable beds. I also prefer the location of Hojo. There's a Panera really close we love to get breakfast from if we're not eating in the park. At either place we usually just walk to the parks. Sometimes we take the CCI shuttle but mostly we don't feel like waiting.

I've never stayed at CCI but have stayed multiple times at Hojo. Just got back from a 5 night trip actually. We're huge Hojo fans! The beds are the most comfortable around. The kids water area is awesome if you have kids. Love that its a hotel with interior corridors. Keurig coffee makers in the room are a plus for me. The staff are super friendly and go above and beyond to make our stay great every time. The little store onsite has everything we need. Parking is free and easy to get. Mimi's is right across the street. Really its a complete package for us.

Started in 2005 for us. I had two back to back trips during the 50th that I stayed there. We've ventured out to the BWPPI, Park Vue, and some really out of the way Holiday Inn. If I ask my kids where to they want to stay, its always the CCI.

We loved CCI both times we've stayed but got a great AP discount rate at HOJO so trying it for the first time since we've been AP holders 5 years running. I'm really excited to try it out especially after all the comments here !

I never got all the hype about Hojo on the Dis either until I tried it! It's our go to now. We really like it there. Even my picky DH really likes it. Have a great time!

I've stayed at both. I don't think you can go wrong with either. Like people have said the shuttle at the CCI in a plus and it is a nice place. If I had to choose I go with the HOJO though. The walk never bothers me personally ( I think its a short walk) and I Know I can count on a nice staff and clean rooms!

I loved HoJo but the only reason I stayed there was because of the incredible retro rates they used to do. You used to be able to get an Entertainment book rate of $79 a night for building 1, 2 queens. Not any more. The walk was a little long for us, especially at the end of the night. Now we stay across the street at Desert Inn. Right at the crosswalk, clean, comfortable, and $99-109 a night.

If you're a WDW regular, you'll love HoJo for the Superior Room. It's a room with a view of the DL park, which is pretty cool. With a discount that can be found on Mousesavers, you can get that room for less than $200/night - maybe considerably less depending on what season you go. And with a walk that's shorter than the MK bus stop to the MK main gate, it's not too far of a walk. Just imagine getting a Bay Lake park view room for the price of Coronado Springs. That's pretty close to what you'll get.
