Candy Cane Inn or Ho Jos? Newbie Here...

Looking at the CCI thread, I think we are going for the standard room. I like the possibility of getting a fireworks view. Since I am on a gluten free diet, CCI breakfast will not be an option. So no need to pay extra for in room dining. Thanks for all the info!!!:goodvibes

We stayed at the CCI last year for the first time... my husband and I and our 12-year old son. I'm gluten free as well, and I was able to fuel up at the CCI breakfast in the morning. They have plenty of fruit and yogurt. They also had the little peanut butter single serving cups. That's all I needed to hold me over to lunch. Just an FYI.

Also, the DLR restaurants were so wonderful dealing with my gluten intolerance. They really went out of their way to make my meals special. Don't forget to make a note of it on your reservations.

I'm trying to choose between deluxe and premium. I don't care about turn down service or delivered breakfast or any of that...what appeals the most is the extra square footage. However it's an extra $246 for the week... Hmmm...

If you don't care about the delivered breakfast, then I would go for the deluxe room That is what we had. The standard rooms are pretty small in comparison, so I think it does make a big difference to go with the deluxe.

I personally think the premium rooms are not worth the price at the CCI. This is such an old fashioned, "no frills" motel--that it doesn't make sense to pay that much for a room there.

Great!! It's nice to hear feedback from others who are GF!

Ok, so now back to standard, deluxe, or premium? :rotfl:

If you have more than two people, I'd go with deluxe. It gives you a tad more room but is cheaper than the premium. I kind of like going to the breakfast, seeing all the choices, and sitting outside for breakfast. If you have a special diet, it might help you to actually go to the breakfast and see for yourself what is there as opposed to checking the options off on the order form. You can also take the tray from under the ice bucket in your room to the breakfast area and carry food back to your room if want. We saw lots of people doing that.

My only wish for the breakfast- that they would put out some hard boiled eggs. I need protein for breakfast and I've only been able to find cream cheese and I'm lactose intolerant so then I have to take a pill in order to eat it. I haven't seen that peanut butter someone mentioned. I'll have to look for that next time.

I did it!! I just booked a deluxe room for August. I requested a top floor...is there anything else I should request??

Thanks for all your help!

Oh, also, I tried to book thru Disney so I could get the tickets, too, but they were showing no availability with Candy Cane. However, CC was showing plenty of availability if I booked myself, so that's what I did.

Do you know why Disney would show no availability when there clearly was? Is there any advantage or disadvantage of booking either with Disney or on my own?? Good neighbor hotels do NOT get the length of stay early entry, correct? Is that just the three actual Disney hotels?

I'm am confused. So can Disney book CCI? I thought they could only book PP, DLH, GC? What is the advantage of going thru Disney to book?

You can book good neighbor hotel packages thru Disney. There are roughly 40 good neighbors.

I always book my own hotel. Well, now we get APs so I have to, but even when we bought tickets, did that too. I don't know how good neighbor packages work, but maybe the hotel gives a certain percentage to Disney to be booked through them, then keeps the rest for themselves to book? :confused3 Booking a package usually costs more than doing it all yourself. They throw in things like a lanyard and maybe a vip seating to Aladdin or getting into Toon Town an hour before it opens to others. To me, those things weren't worth the extra money, but some people like them. You don't get any perks that people staying on site get.

Just so you know, to see the fireworks you need to go out on the second story balcony in front of the rooms on the left hand wing as you look into towards CCI. Anyone can stand there and watch. Last time the perfect spot was right in front of our room so we just stepped outside our door to watch.

I agree the deluxe rooms are the way to go. We had two adults and one kid in ours last year and it was just fine for space. We also had a ton of luggage and a wheelchair in the room and it was fine. I was sporting a splint for a torn ligament in my leg so I never actually walked to DLR from CCI. But, it was a nice ride in the wheelchair with my husband pushing me!

We just got back from a 4-night stay at CCI (6/21-6/25). It is our favorite place to stay. We love the convenience of the walk, the dedicated shuttle and the breakfast. We usually grab a bagel, banana and juice for the walk. If we have more time, we get some cereal and sit there to eat. The walk is super easy as you don't have to cross Harbor or wait for that light. The only street you have to cross is the shuttle entrance and usually that's a short wait or you can risk walking against the light which we often did.

The shuttle leaves CCI on the hour and half hour and leaves the parks on the 15 and 45. There is no shuttle at 8pm or 8:15pm (at least for our trip). When we were there this weekend, the last shuttle left the park 45 minutes after the official park closing time. So, if the park closed at 11, the last shuttle was at 11:45. If it closed at midnight, the last shuttle was at 12:45. So, if you are still shopping on Main Street until 1am, you would have to walk back.

I don't know if we had a standard or deluxe room, but it had plenty of space IMO. The fridge was great for snacks and waters, there was plenty or drawer space, place to sit and relax, and space for our luggage. There isn't a "closet" that's enclosed, but in the bathroom area there is a rack to hang clothes. There were open "cubbies" next to the TV and a table with two chairs. We brought a power strip to plug in behind the nightstand and used that to charge our phones, camera, etc. There was a plug near the door, but that wasn't really convenient for anything we found.

Just reading this thread with great interest as these are the two places we have short-listed for our trip next summer. :)
