I am researching Disneyland for a 2012 trip(7 days). WDW vets but 1st timers to DL/CA. Would love to stay at the Disneyland Hotel but if we can't swing it I have picked two options: Candy Cane Inn or Anabella Hotel. Any thoughts or reviews? I would pay for a deluxe room with either of these hotels. We have one DS who would be 11 at the time of the trip. From their websites they look small but pretty landscape. Which is fine for us.

These are two fairly good choices. Basically you will have a single trade off.

Bigger rooms at Annabelle or easier park access from Candy Cane Inn.

CCI is closer by quite a bit, and offers a shuttle which is usefull if you don't have to wait for it to arrive at the pickup.

I have heard REALLY good things about the Annabelle!:thumbsup2

I ADORE the Candy Cane Inn! It's super clean and the staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a great continental breakfast and a shuttle to/from the park (however you really don't need it - it actually took longer to take the shuttle than to walk). Of all the Good Neighbor hotels I've stayed at, this is my first option, although I've never stayed at the Annabelle so I can't really compare.

We're staying at the Anabella, and I'm very excited about it. We plan to walk to the park along Disneyland Drive, and then cut through the Grand Californian to get to Downtown Disney. I hear that the walk is nicely landscaped and mostly on Disney property. So we'll be offsite without the Harbor "unpleasantness" that I've read about here on the DIS.

We chose the hotel for practical reasons - My husband will be spending his days at the convention center which is right next to the Anabella. But I've read so many nice things about it.

Please report back and/or send me a PM about your experience. Also thanks so much for explaining the pathway to DL for me. I was thinking there was a way through Downtown Disney by looking at the maps but I wasn't sure.

My choice was between these two hotels as well - in the end we have opted for CCI at the beginning of April. Hope to pay Anabella a visit (I believe they have a hotel bar?) to check it out and maybe we'll try it on another trip. Happy to report back.

I've stayed at the CCI but not the Anabella. The Anabella looks really nice and I've heard great things about it so I wouldn't hesitate to stay there but i love CCI and would pick it first mainly because it's closer to DLR and also they have a free shuttle, a free breakfast and free parking. I believe the Anabella charges for parking and i don't think there's a free breakfast. Some people say the rooms at CCI are too small but we've never had a problem with the size.

That is a nice walk -- you'll enjoy it. :)

Maybe it is because you're walking down a quieter street and thru the GC, but it doesn't feel any farther than CCI.

There is a booking package that includes free breakfast for two, but it wasn't the best deal for us at the time we booked. I think it may have been their Concierge level service.

Squidlet - I'm so glad to hear it's a nice walk! We may take ART home at the end of the night, but I'm looking forward to the walk to the parks in the morning!

Thanks for all the reviews:goodvibes What is the weather/temps like in mid-June? We know how Florida is like in June..HOT & Humid but what is So.Cal like?

The weather is actually perfect. In the morning it will be foggy and a bit chilly (need a light jacket). We call this "june gloom". It burns off by lunch, and then you have mild temps (with very low humidity--nothing like Florida!) and sunshine for the rest of the day. Very mild/sunny weather. I LOVE disneyland in the summer, except for the occasional heat wave. We have gone the last 10 years at least once in summer, and only hit a heatwave (100 plus temps) twice. We went in August both times, so now try to go in June or July. This year we are going in June!

We've stayed at Candy Cane Inn twice and loved it! Walking to the park in the morning is fine, but after a long day it's nice to hop in their dedicated shuttle at midnight! Clean rooms, continental breakfast, and pool for hot afternoons. We would definitely stay there again.

You can see my review with pics of CCI in my sig. I haven't stayed at the other one, so can't say. We just love being so close at CCI. We have twin teenage boys and get the deluxe room. It is a tad on the smallish side, but we don't feel cramped and we have stayed there for 5 nights.
