candy buffet update

I just had my planning session yesterday and asked our florist about a candy buffet. She had said we are allowed to bring in our own candy, but someone in your party has to fill up the jars and keep refilling them through the night. All candy has to be wrapped. I told her we bought M & M's but they are an unopened bag, can we still use them since it is unopened. Her response to that was technically no, but if you pre-portion them out into little bags, we can have them. She asked to see what kind of candy and how much of each item we are bringing so they can figure out what jars to put them in. Since we are locals, we are coming in a few weeks before the wedding to show her what we have. They set up a 6 foot table and you can rent the jars or I believe bring your own. But again, someone will in your party will have to fill them. Since all of the candy is wrapped, we do not need to rent scoops! One less thing to pay for.

Just wanted to give anyone who is planning on having a candy buffet an update. When I receive my BEO from her, I will be sure to post it! HTH!!

Just a helpfull tip for anyone that wants to personalize their candy and doesn't want the typical "fun size" packaging for their wedding candy buffet.

Since Disney requires that all of the candy is individually packaged, you can purchase the plastic "jewelry" bags at hobby lobby, walmart, etc. that look like ziploc bags but are different shapes and smaller than a sandwich ziploc bag. Then you can make "bag toppers" with your monogram and wedding date to place on top of the bag after you fill it with fun candy. You can save money by buying candy in bulk like m&ms and then packaging it yourself.

I emailed my consultant about this a few months ago and here is what they said...


Hello! You can provide the candy, but we do have a few guidelines:



· It must come in the manufacturer’s original container (with label) to ensure it is a commercial product.

· None of the candy provided can be homemade.

· All candy must be individually wrapped.



These are the current guidelines, but you will need to discuss the exact options closer to the wedding with your Wedding Planner.




So in other words everything must be in the original manufacturers packaging. I wanted to buy my own M&M's she said that was a no no, but Disney can order them for you, so that is what we plan on doing.

Okay so here's another question for anyone that can answer it. We were going to have a candy buffet, but since we don't want to bother with people grabbing too much, too little etc, plus not having to worry about scoops and jars (in other words, we want to control the portions,) we're going to be pre making the favors in 5oz painter jars and have the unwrapped candy in layers inside the jar. Can we do this? Isn't it the same as having m&ms in the jewelry bags from hobby lobby? I mean they're technically sealed in a jar right?

I really hope so because these are our actual centerpieces! Ugh! We're going to have a vase in the center with flowers and surrounding it would have been the painter jars. That way when the reception is over, the guests would get up, grab a jar and take it with them home.

Thanks for the info on the candy buffet. I've always wanted this as a favor for my guests and it is good to know what Disney's rules on this are.
