CANDY BUFFET for my DD graduation party I NEED HELP..Please

In my search for everything blue and white, I found rock candy and saltwater taffy in light blue and I believe in yellow as well. I visited many web sites so I am not sure where I saw them but they are out there. Good luck.

That's my next journey I live apprx 15 min to the Wildwood boardwalk and I won a $25 gift cert to Lauras fudge a candy store there and im going to check others out for blue and yellow salt water taffy and rock candy etc....
the prices on some of these websites are crazy! I did already buy some containers at the dollar store and glass containers also!

We just had DD's Sweet 16 Luau Party...
We had a candy buffet. I put all the candy in sandpails from the dollar store.
We had

Swirly suckers
Pixie Sticks
Mini candy bars
Mike and Ikes
Skittles
M & M's
Lots of Bulk
Hersey Kisses
Candy necklaces.
And a whole lot more

Most of the candy came from Sams and BJ's. Some from the Bulk Food Aisle at Wegmans (our local grocery store)

We bought tropical cups for the kids to put the candy in. After they filled the cups they put them into baggies and we twisted them up with a pipe cleaner and put in a little paper umbrella and cupcake pick with hawaiian flower on it. Very very cheap and cute.

We had a Tiki Bar (Grass skirt stapled on table, tropical table cloth, flip flop lights, blow up beach balls) making frozen non-alcholic drinks with umbrellas...big hit!


All snacks on the food table were also in sandpails and we used shovels to serve. We didnt have a cake we had cupcakes from Sams with Hawaiian flower picks and paper umbrellas on them. The kids all came in shorts, flip flops and tropical shirts and had a great time. The DJ was fantastic and it was a great night.......

This is awesome. I am having a Luau Pool party for DD9 and her friends as well as a group of my friends so I have been searching for ideas. So far I have decided on the following candy: tropical skittles, starburst and gumballs, rainbow twizzlers, unicorn pops, tootsie roll fruit candies, whirly pops, Trollie gummy rings and pixy sticks.

I have a few questions for you:
1. Did you take pictures? If so, can you post them or PM so I can see how the food and candy looked in the pails.
2. What type of food did you serve?
3. Where did you purchase the tropical cups from? What type of cups are they?

Until I read this thread, I'd never heard of a candy buffet. But now, I think it's a wonderful idea and I can't wait to someday have the chance to use it! Thanks everyone.

I am curious about the cost also. I am hosting a couples shower June 21st and I love this idea. We are already doing a tri-tip dinner and drinks so cost would have to be a factor but I just love the idea of adding something special to the party.

You could crush up Graham Crackers to make sand to put the candy on top of in the pails!!

It really depends on what kind of candy you buy and how much of it you buy! and if you need the jars or containers to put it in or if you use ones you have laying around! It could be cheap or expensive it depends on what you put on there the amount of it and how many diff types etc.... Right now I probably spent apprx $110 and I'm not done but $36 of that $110 is for a box of full size hershey chocolate candy bars! and $40 is for 80ct chinese take out containers to take candy home in! A good amount of candy so far was from the $1 store! like the candy jewelry and the pixie sticks .

HERE IS MY UPDATE
I did it. Saturday....it was GREAT!
i dont have the pictures in jpg yet but when I do I will put them on.

It was outside. We had one white tent set up with sides so no one could see.
When it was dusk and most were done eating i got everything turned on.
The chocolate for the fountian had to be melted before I put it in the fountian.
I had 2 8 ft tables and one 4 ft. I put the fountian by itself because I heard of the mess. Honestly it wasnt so bad. I had..cookies, strawberries, potatoe chips(this was the biggest hit)marshmellows on sticks, pretzels. I had small foil star pans(like cupcake holders) and spoons so many spooned the chocolate over the treats. The only mess is when you dip in the fountian and pull it away you get a little drip on the table. I used a Lame(sp) so the color was dark so the drips were fine.

Candy was all in glass vases, dishes, bowls, martini glasses.
I had pixie stix,gumdrops, gummy worms, gummy peach rings, taffy, licorice,star lollipops, swirls lollipops, blow pops, candy necklaces, candy bracelets, nerds, laffy taffy, cotton candy, gumballs, butter hard candy,
lemon heads, hershey treasures. cowtales...some other stuff.
I got some at the dollarstore, Christmas Tree Shop, cVS, Target.
I used the candy that took up the most space (and cheapest) for the biggest vases. It took 6 boxes of saltwater taffy to fill a HUGE vase .... I seperated the colors so it looked really nice...it was 2.50 a box.
The big swirls pops were 4-6$ at the candy store but I found them for .89 at the Christmas tree shop so I got 10....
I used favor boxes I got at ACmoore and then made labels for them that said
"Michellles Future is Looking pretty sweet...Thanks for sharing this special day. One other thing was we put white twinkle lignts around the inside of the tent and robe lights across the tables....and since it was at night....WOW!
Michelle made a anouncement and asked her guests to come to the tent....then we pulled back the drape....everyone was standing there with their mouths open....as people walked into the tent(in a semi line) Michelle handed them the boxes.
It was controled but you would have thought we were giving away WII There were about 70 people here. maybe 15 kids and then alll the Senior friends who came later. I had plenty. The cost of the candy was approx. 125.00...the containers were 37.00 and I used whatever else I had.
I used spoons for some things and I had plastic ice tongs I bought at iparty for 1.39 each I got 6.
The smallest container took 1 bag of candy and the largest took 6. Most vases took about 4. It looked so pretty.

I got the jars at the Flower Factory which is a wholesale club in our area...they were $4.97 and I had ten filled with assorted candy. The biggest draw was the candy necklaces! In the past I had balloon centerpieces which was about the same cost, but the candy was a much bigger hit. I will try to post a picture later.

I was thinking about adding this our candy buffet that we'll have in July for DD's graduation party.

Thanks OP! You inspired me to do this for dd & ds's birthday parties next weekend. I bought a ton of candy at cvs today 75% off. Then I bought sand pails & shovels at dollar tree and some other containers. I also bought happy birthday little gift bags 3/$1 for the guests candy. Kids are gonna love this!

I just found this thread, and theres no way I can read all 7 pages of posts, so I don't know if this has been mentioned, or if the party is over, but one thing I like to do is get fortune cookies (either from your local chinese store for very cheap, or you can go online and get them personalized) and decorate them myself. I just dip one end in chocolate (can be colored) and then either do a swiggle of different colored chocolate on top of that, or sugar sprinkles.

we are doing one for our cookout in July and having ton's of kids so we are using plastic bowls, cups, and other containers for the candy (kids are sneaky and I don't want any hospital trips to break up the cookout fun!). Target and Walmart have awesome looking summer bowls in now and plastic margarita cups that will look great with candy in them!!
