Candles?

Is it okay to bring/burn candles in the stateroom? I'm thinking of bringing a few tealights, which burn VERY LOW TEMP!!

My guess is no. They don't even allow irons, so I can't imagine that tealights would be acceptable. We brought along a plug in air freshener with a night light. That worked our perfectly for us and the room smelled great.

Note a recent read on the CruiseCritic Carnival boards about passenger burning up the their stateroom with candles. They also got the bill for the repair$.

Fire is the biggest hazard on a ship because of confined spaces (fire consumes oxygen, and produces toxic smoke [you might even get burned]). Thats why no smoking in cabins aboard Disney, no irons, no popcorn poppers, and they even cook in the galleys with steam heat. Disney probably gets an insurance break over competing lines because of it

Unfortuanlty, candles are no longer allowed on any of the cruise ships - we received a letter from Disney requesting that no candles, no incense etc be put into any of our baskets for they were forbidding any of their passengers to bring them on- from what I understand children were playing with them while their parents were out of the room and they did set the room on fire - it could have been a very tragic event, but noone was hurt. I do not know what ship this occurred on, but I agree even tho it seems a shame for a romantic night or on the veranda.

We had a rash of fatal fires this winter all caused by candles. Other than on a birthday cake, I'd think twice about using candles anywhere, anytime. Just too dangerous.
