Taking my mom next year for her 1st Disney Christmas experience. I can only choose 1; but I love them both! IF I choose Epcot; I will use up two table service credits just to guarantee us a seat for the CP. But going to DHS Osbourne Lights, I will only use one table service and take her to 50's Prime Time for dinner. Help me, please :)

Osbourne is my FAVORITE ANYTHING in Disney for holidays. PLUS - 50's is in my top 3 favorite table meals. No contest :thumbsup2

Osborne by far. You can get the CP experience in any large church anywhere in the US.

Thank you, thank you....just what I needed to know. I also was concerned that Epcot would just be way too much walking for my mom.

Epcot, no question. The Osbourne lights are good but I liked them better before they cleared the area for the Lights, Action, Motion stunt show. Many neighborhoods have nice light displays and larger cities, like where I live, have several drive through areas packed with lights. So the argument that the CP can be seen at any large church is also true for light displays.

But, I like the CP better as the choir and readings are traditional Christmas (so are Christmas lights for that matter) plus the World of Nations area has several story telling and events that are Christmas related that are fun from the Monkey King Story at China, the Christmas witch at Italy, the singing at the American Adventure, etc. that make this area so much more enjoyable at Christmas than just the lights at Hollywood Studio.

Not even considering the DP credits, I would go with Osborne because it's easier to see - no wait, no line, no specific time to be there - just go when you want!

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I asked this question on another thread and didn't get a response. Isn't there a way to do BOTH Candlelight Processional and Osborne Lights? Here's what I was thinking:

5:00-6:00 CP
6:10-6:50 Boat ride to DHS
7:00-8:00 Osborne Lights

I know it's a tight schedule, but at least you get to do both.

You could still do the CP package but do it for lunch instead of dinner. The only downside to this is it still takes 2 dining credits. OR you could stand in line for CP and then make a late ADR at Prime Time right before closing and use only 1 dining credit.

I'm like the OP; I really want to do both on my Christmas trip next year.

Does anyone think this is crazy to even try, or is it possible?

With that schedule (as long as DHS is open late enough) I don't think it is crazy to try it. Not sure about how often the boat service will be; however, worse case you can actually just walk it (have done that before when we were in a hurry and just missed a boat and were told the next one wouldn't be for a least 20 mins). Also, doing it that way around if you are a bit late you will still get to see the lights.

If it was me, I would go with candlelight... while the Osborn Lights are very kewl and not something I would want to miss... Candlelight is just more "Christmasy" and I think it leaves a deeper impression. However, since it will be your Mom's first Christmas there... in the end... If I was in your place it would come down to what you think your mom would like better.

Does she really like Christmas lights and likes going to big Christmas Light displays? If so, then maybe Osborn Lights is the right answer; however, if she seems to prefer more "traditional" Christmas stuff then I would say Candlelight. Unless it is a surprise, you could always tell her about both and see which one she thinks she would like better.

yeah, I would try to make them both as well...but CP is way too Christmassy and wonderful to miss!

IMHO the CP is a very religious based(Christian) program. It follows the story of the birth of Christ with the music intertwined into the read story. While beautiful if you are in line with those beliefs it doesn't hold everyones attention. We went one year...just walked up and found seating while already in progress. It wasn't something that interested my kids or DH. To much like church for their Disney vacation. I myself loved it but got very upset with the rest of my group who just couldn't get into it. We loved the Osborne lights! Everyone enjoyed them. We did go on Christmas Eve which just put us completly in the Christmas spirt.

Regardless of which you choose you will enjoy it. Good Luck with your descission.

I vote for Osborne too. I adore them both, but if I had to pick one it would be the lights. If you had to you could search out a similar event to candlelight in your community.

:) I would buy her a hot chocolate and do Osborn Lights, then purchase her the CD from CP. I just really really remember seeing Lights for the first time, CP not so much. :santa:

If you can only do one, go with the Osborne Lights - they are very cool to see.

We went for our first holiday trip last year and I was SO excited to see CP after reading all of the reviews on here, but, honestly, I thought it was just okay - we did a dinner package and didn't have to wait in line long at all, but I most likely wouldn't go to it again if/when we return for a holiday trip someday. Glad I experienced it once - but not blown away enough to see it again.
