Can anyone let me know how much I would lose if I cancelled a booking with VH?

I've found a DIY with a better flight for just a little more which is tempting me, but it all depends on how much I'd lose by cancelling my existing booking.

Thanks.

I am guessing from your post that it is flight inclusive, in which case you lose your deposit of £135 per person. That is also assuming that you are far enough out from date of travel not to incur any further percentage of holiday costs.

Yeah - flight inclusive package - 2 adults and 2 children.

So, are children subject to same amount. So would it be £135 * 4 !!!
That would be around £500 which i don't really want to lose!!

Yes children also, I had to cancel a few years back, school gave wrong dates for Oct half term so I cancelled and re-booked DIY. Thankfully the savings were more than the loss, at the time was £360, £120 each.

You need to crunch the numbers very carefully first. I had a similar dilemma recently and eventually decided against it as I would have saved little over £100 at the end of it after losing the deposit (yes, also £135 for my child). For those who are keen to save what they can this would be worth it, however if time and convenience is a consideration as it was for me, it depends whether the hassle of reorganising your trip is worth the amount of money you will save. Just a point to bear in mind: if you have another offer lined up and you feel you would benefit by cancellng and rebooking, ask the new provider to put a courtesy hold on your package quote BEFORE you cancel. The last thing you need is to forfeit your deposit only to find the better deal has increased in price. Most places will hold it and give you a reference for at least 24 hours, but the longer the better. I hope it works out well for you. :goodvibes

I had to cancel a vacation earlier this year and Virgin Holidays retained the deposits but allowed me to transfer them to another booking as long as I made it within a year. This cost to transfer was a £25 booking fee per person but it totally worked for me... :thumbsup2

How would this work with VA?

Cancelling a flight with VA depends which ticket you buy. If you buy the cheapest tickets they are generally no cancellation/no refund. If you did cancel you can claim the tax back but not the ticket price.
Buy a flexible ticket and you can cancel for a fee or change dates but they are usually about double the price of cheapest tickets.

Thanks Wayne, It was the cheapest ticket we could get for August, as you know far from cheap!!!! Only just booked so not wanting to cancel, just thought i'd ask as you never know. We have an annual travel insurance, if necessary.
