If I want to cancel a Southwest flight, does that money stay available for booking new tickets or do I lose it? I breezed thru the Southwest website and only found info on refunds, not travel funds....so I figured someone around here would probably know! Thanks!:)

On the right there is a link, says Change flight. If you know that you will need a specific flight that is available to book, then you can do it that way and the funds from previous trip will go towards that. You will put in your previous confirmation number to pull up that funds available.

If you do no not have a flight planned yet, you can use the travel funds up to one year. After that you pay $50 if you want to extend by another 6 months.

This is assuming you have non-refundable ticket.

Know that if you cancel, travel funds are available one year from the date of purchase and the not the date of the flight. You must travel on/before the date of purchase.

Also funds are no longer non-transferable. Funds are good only for the person for whom the flight was booked. Used to be in the past that anyone could use the credit.

And the funds are available 1 year from the date of purchase not the date you were going to travel!! I heart Southwest!!!!!!!!

What if you used your SWA RR points to book the flight? Would you get the points put back in your account, then you have to use those points within a year?

I can't seem to find information on this.

I recently had to change a flight that I had booked using RR points and the process was the same as if I had booked paying cash, although I did have to do it over the phone, the flight could not be changed online. I would call and ask, I think the process would be the same for a refund but I am not positive.
