I am thinking of booking a trip for Sept. during the time the generally offer free dining. My question is, if they offer the free dining and I book the trip, is it easy to cancel if they also come out with a room only discount that works out to be cheaper for my family? TIA;)

Do you have an AP? If so, you can now book a room only through CMO and add the free dining without having to get a package. If you do not have an AP, you will need to get a MYW package in order to get the free dining. This has to be booked through WDTC. If a room only rate comes out later, you will have to cancel the package with WDTC and rebook a room only res with CMO. By doing this, you chance your room been snatched up while you are cancelling and rebooking. You have to decide if it's worth the risk......Does that make sense?

We booked last Sept. via bounceback. We have annual passes. To get the free dining, we had to buy 1 day tickets. Are you saying we don't need to do that to get the free dining? How do you book it to avoid paying for 1 day tickets??

Just call and try to book, compare costs.

You can get the dining plan with an AP room without buying tickets now. You can even book your room with an AP rate and add the dining plan.

You most likely will NOT be able to combine an AP discount with free dining. Free dining is a discount, and WDW does not combine discounts. No telling yet as to whether or not AP holders will be able to book free dining without tickets. It may be applicable to room/tickets packages only. But I bet you can't add dining for free to an already discounted room.

Any room booked with the dining plan is considered a package and is subject to the cancellation policies of packages (cancel 45 days out to avoid penalties).

When booking the room on the bounceback plan, the room was the regular rate (it was the rate listed on the website plus the cost of a 1 day ticket), there was no AP rate for the room. The real question is whether the 1 day ticket can be dropped.

Only one way to find out, that is to call and ask!!

I just called to cancel the 1-Day MYW ticket on the free dining plan offer we booked in September b/c we have APs. I was told that it can't be done because in order to get free dining you have to book the hotel AND the ticket.

However, she said that IF free dining becomes available to the general public later this year, and IF they create a free dining package for AP holders so they don't have to buy a MYW ticket, THEN I could change my ressie to that package.

HTH! :thumbsup2

Thanks for checking! I guess we will have to wait to see if the "ifs" come true!
