Just curious on the cancellation policy for ADR's. I have done all my ADR's and am on the dining plan - just wondering how it will work once we get there and decide we don't want to eat at that particular restaurant/time. Am I able to cancel at the last minute or is 24 hours notice required? If I do cancel at 4pm and my reservations are for 5pm - will that effect my dining plan credits?

I am so excited about my ADR's, just don't want to be completed "tied" down if once we get there, plans change!

Thanks everyone!

You are fine to cancel last minute unless it's a resuaurant that required a credit card hold at time of reservation.

You can, and should, cancel as soon as you know you will not use an ADR. There is no penalty, unless as previous poster said, the restaurant required a credit card guarantee. YOu will be charged there.
As for your credits, unless you are able to book a TS restaurant at the last minute - which is iffy - you will not be able to use that credit and will loose it.

Which is one of the main reasons we don't use the dining plan! As the OP said, plans change and I don't want to have paid for something we're not using!

Just to be clear, there is no penalty even if you *never* cancel. In fact, the system allows you to make as many ADRs as you want and then not use them. Canceling your unwanted ADRs is something you should do as a *courtesy* to the Disney community, but it's good to know that it is not a requirement. Being on the dining plan has no effect on any of this. (As stated above, there are some exceptions that require putting down a credit card number.)

We just returned from our trip and while we were there, plans changed due to weather and me being flat out exhausted, which resulted in us having to cancel one of our ADRs. We made the decision a couple of hours before the our scheduled time and called as soon as we did ~ we were actually able to change the reservation to our resort restaurant which turned out to be a better option all around. You don't typically *have* to cancel a reservation unless you've secured it with a credit card, but since our ADR was for a character dinner I thought maybe someone else could use the spot.

The PPs have told you about the cancellation policies. But don't forget about your dining plan credits. It's a matter of 'if you don't use it, you lose it'. You may want to think twice about cancelling a TS meal if you won't be able to use it for another meal during your stay. I understand that plans change, and sometimes life just gets in the way. But don't forget that, depending on the time of year, it may be very difficult to find a "replacement ADR" at the last minute.
