Cancelling a room only reservation

Canadian here-have a room only reservation for May at CSR. Obviously will have to cancel now. Clearly I was overly optimistic when I booked. There's quite a difference between returning the U.S. $ amount to my credit card, and purchasing in U.S. $ on it. Is it possible they can apply the credit to a Disney Gift Card for future use?

I can’t say for sure, but why don’t you just push the reservation forward to the fall? Again, you could always eventually cancel, but at least you won’t have to figure out the money thing right now and it sounds like you are okay with setting that money aside. Plus you’ll have something to be hopeful about

When canceling, they will refund the money to the original method of payment. They can't issue a gift card. PP's recommendation of simply rescheduling may be the better option for you.

Generally its refunded to the original form of payment.

Clearly you still plan on going if you're asking about getting a gift card so why not just move the reservation farther out instead of locking yourself into a gift card?
At least that way if something happens and you need that money available for something else you can always cancel.
