We have offered our married kids a Grand Villa vacation in Sept. of 2006. (No comments, we already know!! LOL)

We figure that the worst that could happen is that they cancel at the very last minute. We have Plan B ready.

But, if they manage to decide more than 31 days before, our points, most of which will be borrowed from the next year, will go back to that year...Am I right?

No ma'am! You couldn't be more wrong. I hope that's not your "Plan B!" Borrowed points do NOT go back. They stay in the use year they are borrowed into.

is to go to the Poly for the week and spend all of the points.

So the points would go where? Into the year that we borrowed into? To be spent at any time in that year? No 60 rule or anything?

Actually they won't "go" anywhere. They will stay in the use year that you borrowed them into and will have to be used before the use year is up. That is the danger of borrowing points for a trip that you really aren't sure will happen.

If it is at the beginning of the use year, at least you will have a long time to figure out how to use them. If it is at the end of your use year, that poses even more problems.

I was just trying for figure it all out. Like I said, we may stay at the Polynesian or even go to Disneyland for a week.

Since the planned vacation is September of '06, if you have a use year of October- December, you will be able to bank the points from the '06 use year, and the points borrowed from the '07 use year must be used in the '06 use year. What month is your use year in?

Depends on when your use year is. If your use year is February, then the points would have to be used by Jan. 31st of '07, just before your new use year starts.

Yes - if your use year is February and you borrow 2007 use year points for the September, 2006 trip, the borrowed points need to be used by 1/31/2007 or they are lost to you. You could bank any current 2006 use year points you used for the September, 2006, trip subject to the banking rules.

If you need to execute Plan B (a stay at one of the resorts in The Disney Collection for example), remember the 60 day rule. You cannot make a reservation during the last 60 days of your use year for a non-DVC option if the stay will also occur during the last 60 days of your use year.

Best wishes -
