Cancelling a reservation that involves borrowed points?

I have a one night reservation that I made with a handful of banked points that were about to expire. I had to borrow two points to cover the reservation. We've decided that we aren't going to use the reservation so I want to cancel it. I haven't been keeping up with rule modifications as a result of the pandemic and I can't seem to get through to member services to ask this question, but did I read somewhere that borrowed points will be returned to their original use year as long as the reservation is cancelled 31 days out? If that's correct, can I just cancel the reservation online or do I need to get a hold of member services?

Right now, borrowed points are being returned to the original UY if the reservation is canceled. If you cancel online, the points will not be returned immediately. Points are taking 7-10 days to be returned. If you don't need them before then, you don't need to call Member Services. If you don't see them returned within 2 weeks, then give MS a call.

To add, if your close to the end of the UY, and waiting the two weeks would put you into the next UY, then you will want to contact them to get them moved faster.
