Well - sad to report that I cancelled our trip to the Poly for May. Put together all the money and it's just not feasible without a better discount. Airfare is up, kids are now adults on the meal plan, etc., etc., etc. We've been lucky is past years with regards to pins and public discounts. Makes me a little angry that Disney has no "loyalty discount" as so many other companies do. But there's always next year! :sad1:

We share the same mindset. We're scheduled to go in June for a GG and would have canceled if it weren't for the special occasion we've been invited to share. We honeymooned at WDW and have been back several times and had a blast. But the pin craziness has ruined it for me and I enjoy the logistics of a trip too much to take advantage of last minute deals - not enough quality planning. My DH has never liked it as much as I do so this is it for us.

I also felt slightly angry while reading about people who called over and over and finally got a pin. Not because they scored a discount but because that's no way to start a vacation, so I'm not willing to do it. Now I just. don't. care. I'll have fun planning this last trip and then become on expert on Hawaii or Costa Rica or France or any of the numerous other places one can visit for the same price as WDW.

Well, the option would be to stay in a Moderate or a lower level deluxe. And you could try going during a Free Dining time, like so many of us do. I may be paying full rack rate during value season but I saved myself almost $2K going with Free Dining and both of my kids are now adults on the meal plan. There are ways to go, you just have to be willing to make adjustments if you love it enough.

I agree!!! Do AKL or WL during free dining and you'll save yourself a TON! You don't have to pass up a trip this year! Or pay for your DDP and stay at a mod. I recommend CSR. :goodvibes

I feel bad for you. We were fortunate to get a pin code. There is such a big difference between 40% off and 25% off. These discounts expire March 27 maybe something better will be released. We bought our airline tickets in November. I agree airfare is scary high right now.

I can certainly feel your pain regarding the pin offers. I have been waiting patiently for one to arrive and nothing. Last week I was with a group of women and out of the 5 of us, 4 had received a pin for free dining. Of course none of them are planning on returning this year, and all of them have gone as a result of me booking the trip. I really don't understand the procedure used. Also, I don't understand not letting others use the codes. For example, why not let me use my sister's code. If they want the rooms to fill up then it makes sense to allow the codes to be used.

I completely understand! For us, there are too many other options out there to go to Disney and pay rack rate. We tend to go Easter weekend and have ALWAYS (strangely enough) gotten a decent discount. This time, nothing, so we're going to explore the other options. I just don't feel Disney offers up any kind of loyalty to me... so why do I owe them my loyalty?

I'm sorry...but boo hoo because you can't afford staying at the POLY and getting the DDP? Really? Stay at a value and not get the DDP, there you go, now you have enough money... You can do disney w/o doing Deluxe. If you choos not too...that is your choice.

Some people don't consider staying at a value resort and eating fast food a vacation. I'm with op. I would stay home or vacation elsewhere before I would spend my money at a value resort. There is nothing wrong with that. I think op was just venting her disappointment in not getting to stay at her favorite resort. Hopefully she will find somewhere else to vacation that she enjoys. I think she had already made her choice by cancelling her vacation.

I totally agree that there should be some sort of loyalty program or incentive for spreading our vacation planning and recommendations! So many have booked trips to Disney because I have encouraged and helped them! It would be nice to be recognized from the company for that kind of loyalty. Of course, there are few companies that actually recognize you for recommending them but at least hotels have loyalty programs.

I hope you are able to take a trip to WDW soon!

Well the GP offers of years past were very good. Esp the 4/3 deal and SOME of the free dining offers (the early ones). The ones you get now aren't so great.

We did get a free dining pin recently but we aren't going to make use of it. Reasoning is because it was QSDP with a moderate plus we couldn't justify the price being much of a "deal" compared to years past. I can see a family of 5 going and saving $$ but not for our family of 4 with one toddler whose only 3. Maybe when she starts on her own dining plan then we can see it.

I thought the bounceback offers Disney had were pretty good but after going to disney and already paying for one vacation we were never prepared to pay for another "the same week we went".

We still love Disney but it may be some time before we can go again....

Every year Disney's prices make it harder and harder to visit....we now drive the 18 hrs every trip to save money so we still can do a deluxe....I booked in December and have free dining at the WL this summer!!

I'm sorry but I don't feel sorry for you at all. So you can't stay at the Poly, there are other hotels, stay mod, it won't kill you or "gasp", stay off property.Do you want to go to Disney or not????There are plenty of options for you.

Some people never get the opportunity to go to Disney, let alone stay at the Poly......

It seems to me that though it is true that OP could go to a value or moderate resort instead of the Poly to save some money, I don't think it is necessary to criticize the OP for not seeing value in going to Disney this year without a discount. We all have different priorities when it comes to our family's vacation for the OP it seems like staying at a deluxe is one of them. I think it goes without saying that all of us no matter where we stay would rather go with a discount than without one.

I think the criticism is out of line. Part of the vacation experience is your accomodations. We love going to the beach and go annually. We stay on the beach. If we can't afford to stay on the beach, we won't go. I enjoy WDW resorts that offer something extra in case we want to take a day or so off from the park, which, with little ones, is a necessity. Additionally, you can see from her tag that she has loyalty, not only to Disney, but to the Poly. All things considered, I can't disagree.

Wow, is that a little harsh?

The OP can vacation or not however she chooses to. Just because you don't agree with her vacation choices is no reason for you to be nasty. :sad2:

I agree.

My choices are different but we each have our own ideas of a vacation. and believe me, if I had a discount this year I would be at the Poly again in a heartbeat. It just won't seem like Spring Break without a stay at my favorite resort.

There is nothing wrong with wanting a certain level hotel when you vacation. Nor should someone feel guilty because other people can't afford to go to disney at all. There have been years when I could not afford a vacation, but never have I been jealous of those that could.

Yes. Yes. Yes... If I am paying for it.. I want my vacation, my way! I don't want someone else's vacation :)

I am with you OP. If I couldn't stay at YC Club Level honestly I would save up again until I could. THAT is my vacation. That is why I call it VACATION. I don't blame you a bit as why spend an already good amount of money on a vacation when it isn't exactly what you want? I hope you get the magic pin code!!!!!!

Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions!! I know the Poly is over the top and yes - we could stay off property. Actually considering that as an option. Some of the moderates are not big enough in room size for 5 people. We're all different in what we're used to. My best vacations were in Disney…I never cooked a thing, never made my bed, was spoiled by staying at a great resort, rode the monorail and ate on the DDP. For me - that's Disney. And after spending a cool $20,000 on previous vacations - I feel a little justified in saying "where is my loyalty PIN code?". That being said - many people from what I've read, are getting a bad vibe about Disney and how they run the discounts. The worst part for me is this negative feeling I've developed:( I was such a huge Disney fan….and I still love it….but….not feeling any magic right now. Thanks for letting me vent!
