Enough is enough. I called the cake hotline and cancelled our special 25th anni cake at 1900 Park Faire. It was bugging me and bugging me and more and more the thought of spending $70 on a cake for two of us that we wouldn't finish just didn't make sense. Plus the costs of everything is going up and we can use that money elsewhere. *sigh* I know prices for everything are going up but seriously, WDW needs to get a grip. That cake literally went from $55 to $70 overnight. You cannot justify that type of increase for a 6 inch cake, no way, no how.

I hear you.. $70 is a lot of money. I wish they would come up with single or double servings of smaller special-order desserts. Like miniature cakes that I've seen at some weddings.
There is probably not enough money in it for them to do that, but I would think they would do more volume.

They do have a mini castle cake available only at the GF places for $25 but even that.....I mean seriously, c'mon. And that was the old price. I bet that went up too.

Last year for DD's birthday her cake at our local bakery was 60.00 :scared1: .I guess I should have asked how much it would be when I ordered it.This cake was a two layer with buttercream.I don't remember the size but it was for 20 people.I did have them do a picture of tinkerbelle on it I guess that is why it was so expensive.Never again. This year I am going to make her cake and save 50.00.And the cake was not very good either.

Holy cow! I just priced a sheet cake for 30 people with a special strawberry filling for $26.95. The bakery makes outstanding cakes too.

Disney wanted $70 for a 6-inch cake?

Good for you! That is a nutty price :scared1: And besides, there are soooo many yummy options at WDW for getting a special sugar rush without breaking the bank :thumbsup2

that's crazy. Their cakes are pretty good but not that great for that sort of price. I ordered one for DH's birthday back in 2003 and it was nice but not nice enough to spend $70 on it.

I'm ordering a cake for DD's first communion next year from the place that did our wedding cake and I'm not looking forward to that bill- these sorts of things are just way out of hand.

No way, no how, not ever. And anyone who would spend 70.00 on a cake has got to be
Disney should be ashamed of themselves for charging that kind of money. I agree with a previous poster, lower the price and they will get a lot more takers.
And I love Disney, I usually go at least once a year and have even gone three times a year a few times. I understand how expensive things are getting but not a cake!!!!!!!!!!!!! :sad2:

Well here is a picture of what I ordered. Yes its fancy, yes its pretty, but its a 6 inch cake! The cake without the topper is $55 (that was the price for the whole thing before the increases!). The hollow topper adds another $15 to the cost. I really wanted it and it was a special surprise for DH as our wedding was so-so but I just can't make it make sense......

thought I'd add that as nice as the cake I ordered was, I'd much rather take that $70 and try a bunch of new desserts throughout the trip, or buy a special souvenir, or a really nice bottle of wine. There's just so much more that you can do with $70.

it's cute, and I totally hear you on the so-so wedding, but I'd still have a hard time justifying the cost. Not that I don't have $70 to spend but to me $70 could be so much more than just a little cake. Heck, you could almost take one of those nifty behind the scenes tours for that price. Something with a more lasting memory than a small cake

maybe that's just me though :confused3

Nope ITA and that is what was jamming me. See here's the thing. I've been out of work for over 2 years which is okay because DH had a decent job and we're careful but when I got the call from the VP to come back I was sooooo excited and wanted to do some special stuff for honey. But who am I kidding......he's not going to go bonkers over a cake no matter how freakin' cute it is, it isn't something hugely important in the greater scheme of things for our trip, and there are absolutely better ways to spend it if I even spend it at all! I just get caught up in the moment. Just like wanting to send the chocolate Mickey and tuxedo strawberries to our room I have all the stuff here at my house right now to make those berries for him, and I know how cheap you can do them so why on earth(!!!!!!!!!!!) am I even considering spending $5 per berry to have them delivered to our room! Argh! I can get so much more for him out and about and buy him a special pressie or keepsake of our trip and that will mean way more to him. I can even order a fabulous picture of teh two of us in front of the castle and he would like that so much better. Just need to take a deeeeeeeeep breath...........

:rotfl: this is just like DH and I. I get excited by all the little details but truthfully they really don't matter all that much to him. The best surprise/gift thing I've ever pulled off for him was on one of our trips to WDW. We happened to be there on our anniversary so as my gift to him I booked him on the Aqua Seas tour inside the Living Seas at Epcot. At one point he was a marine biology major before he decided that that was more of a hobby than a career. Anyhoo, so he's still very interested in it. For about $100 he got to snorkel through the tank. He LOVED it. The kids and I had lunch at Coral Reef and watched him swimming around in the tank and took some pictures. He had the best time but, it was an activity, not a thing, know what I mean?

If you wanted to do something really special, how about contacting Disney Photography and scheduling a portrait session?? I forget the locations they offer but you could wind up with some really fantastic pictures of the two of you, that might be really special.

Or just let it go and I'm sure you'll have a great time. It's WDW, how could you not? :)

Wow! $70 is way too much! I'd rather spend that money on something more romantic. How about a nice romantic dinner someplace (Victoria and Alberts) or a couples massage?

I would never spend $70 on a cake that size. I mean its cute and it would be nice but thats just crazy!!! Do like another poster suggested take the $70 and use it for different kinds of desserts during your trip.

we must be spoiled, there is an italian pastry shop down the street from us that has outstanding cakes (among other yummy goodies). we pay around $25 for a medium sized rum cake with heavy cream & strawberry filling. mmmmm good.

Wow-I would cancel also. It sounds like it was really bothering you so I think You did the right thing. You won't miss it at all-so many yummy things at WDW. Treat yourself to something better then cake.:goodvibes

Has the price of the slipper dessert gone up? ITA - their prices are ridiculous now - and most of the non custom cakes are pre frozen, and werent worth $12 (but now they are going with sara lee cakes, and their pre frozen cakes taste good to me - lol so what do I know? Cant wait to read of someone who has gotten one!)

Which is why I'm waiting to order a cake for DD 12 bday (her last before becoming a teenager, dh is making way too much out of this - so I thought instead of the cake, go with the chocolate slipper dessert??)

I also didnt work due to illness... hope to get on track soon!
