I cancelled my Teppanyaki reservations about 2 weeks ago, when word first hit that it wouldn't be opened by my Sept 13th reservation date. Then I read here on the board that people with ressies were being called and given preferential seating for Illuminations and extra tables were opened for dining. I felt a bit shafted, since I'd been proactive.
I called WDW-DINE a one o'clock Eastern and asked to speak to Guest Relations. The CM had to ask why, of course. I barely got out the words, "I had reservations at Teppanyaki..." and she interupted with "Oh, no problem, please hold." Now, I was actually on hold for 50 minutes before someone picked up. I explained that I'd originally had Teppanyaki on the 13th but cancelled when I heard about the refurb. As a result, we'd juggled our schedule around but still wanted to be in Epcot for an evening. I told her I'd heard about the VIP seating and extra tables.
She checked that I had indeed originally had Teppanyaki reservations (by date & name, but my reservation# would have helped) and then was able to help me. She said they'd opened another block of reservations at each restaurant to handle our situation. She got me a table for 3 at 6:30 at Coral Reef and a confirmation# for the VIP location for IllumiNations. She was as sweet as could be, apologized for the long wait time & inconvenience. She said that her team is currrently ONLY dealing with Teppanyaki calls, in and out. I'm guessing the block of tables would have originially gone to walk-ups because you certainly can't cram more tables in!!
