Cancellation Policy??

I am planning a quick end of spring break weekend arriving Thurs, March 31st, and leaving either Saturday the 2nd or Sunday the 3rd.

I feel like I've been reading things that people have had trouble canceling part of their trip. I want to book now while there are still standard rooms left at the resorts we want, but I don't know if I'm going to need that third night (Saturday night the 2nd). I'm afraid if I book 3 nights and then a month from now try to cancel the 3rd night they won't let me. True story?

I'm thinking of booking 2 separate reservations (one for Thurs and Fri and one for just Saturday night) to avoid that situation, but I'd like to avoid the hassle if possible.

Anyone have the official word from Disney on shortening trips?

Thanks :-)

Yep. Basically, they aren't just modifying anymore. If you go to drop that third night but the 2 nights you want aren't available as a new booking, they won't modify. If it would be available as a new booking, they will modify.

I'd do the two reservations to be on the safe side if you can swing the two deposits.

This. :thumbsup2

But if you do 2 reservations it is possible/likely you will have to change rooms that last night

Thanks guys. For our situation, I think making the 2 reservations will be best. Grr...what a silly policy.

Problem was people would book more nights than they needed and then left a stray night when they cancelled that was hard to fill.

I didn't have any trouble in early December canceling one night off my trip (resort only reservation, not a package). Now - things may have changed since then - but it was really no big deal. It's not like they canceled the whole thing and re-booked. Now - I also made that reservation back in October and I haven't read the cancellation policy lately.

If the new dates you want are available as a new booking, they'll just modify. You wouldn't know anything is different on your end, but they started the policy for everyone regardless of booking time.

There's a big thread floating around here somewhere when it went into effect as no one had any warning and caused a bunch of ruckus. The CANCELLATION policy is the same though - 5 days for room only. It's the MODIFICATION process that's changed.

And typically it was done in order to get deals like discounts or free dining which had to be booked early but people wouldn't exactly know what dates they wanted. Then they would end up blocking other people from getting the dates that they wanted so it became a bit of a mess. So the policy now is that if you book a period of time and then want to knock off some days, they would have to be able to book the dates you want under the same deal. If those dates, or the deal, is no longer available, they won't modify.
