It depends on whether you have a package or room only and when you cancel. Do you have a reservation already? If so, it should be printed right on the reservation.

It depends on hoe you booked. If you have booked a room only it's 6 days prior to arrival. On a package it's 45 days prior then the fees begin.

And does anyone know if it is true that you can take a little longer than the 45 day mark to pay for your package? I thought I saw that somewhere, but not positive.

The WDW resort policy is that all packages must be paid off prior to 45 days before check in. This should have been stated on your initial invoice.

Well there is official and unofficial

Unofficially I have heard 30 days before is the latest to pay. That is unofficial and no verified. I would call and talk to a CM if you have doubts about being able to pay by the 45 day mark. Maybe they will work with you.

Also it is better to postpone your trip rather than cancel if you plan to go at any point in the future. Saves Money.
