Cancellation policy/insurance on FTP

With these great FTP rates, we'd be able to get the Polynesian in September for $1975.11 (2 adults). Airfare I'd book on my own, as the choices of airlines/flights offered through Disney aren't very accomodating. I'm still debating on renting a car vs. just taking the shuttle.

My question is, what is this travel insurance all about? I read the blurb about it, but still don't understand. What happens if I have to cancel my reservation? What would happen if I had to alter the reservation (like if our babysitters fell through and we had to bring our kids with)? Could we add them on easily or would we be charged a fee to do so? What if we later decide to do a room upgrade or add on a dining package? Would we be charged another fee?

Travel insurance is nonrefundable. If you book a trip and request the travel insurance you cannot get this money back if you cancel the trip. Even if you cancel before the 45 day limit. Even if you cancel the next day.Let me add that the Disney travel company often (in my opinion) adds on extras-the Silver Plan, travel insurance, etc, without you asking for it. If you don't want the insurance, double check that they didn't give it to you. Also, get the name of the person you are talking to, in case something you didn't want was added anyway. I believe the insurance covers a wide variety of emergencies. It also covers your flight, in the event that you are flying. At one time I asked the company to send the travel insurance pamplet before I decided, so that I could read the fine print. They wouldn't. I was told that the insurance info would come with the rest of the Disney information after I booked. All of this confusion is why we like to book room only. It saves me the headache of dealing with these kinds of issues.
