Please settle a dispute between me and DH.

There is a good chance that we will have to cancel our August/12 trip, but as there is still a possibility we can go, DH doesn't want to cancel at/before the 45 day mark. He would rather we pay for the trip and lose the $200 deposit if we cancel at the 15 day point.

If we cancel at (or just prior to) the 15 day mark, we will be refunded the cost of the trip minus the $200, but will Disney allow us to use that $200 as the deposit for a trip in 2013 if I book it?

I did a search and this is what I have read, but DH believes I have misinterpreted the information.

Thanks.

If you ask about moving your dates to a specific future date, they may/should use your existing deposit for that. That seems to be the normal practice, but I wouldn't call it guaranteed.

If not, you will forfeit the $200.

Agree with vicki_c. I am fairly certain if you reschedule they will simply transfer the deposit (since you are modifying the reservation not cancelling it).

If this is a package and you purchased trip insurance I was told you will lose your deposit if you change your dates drastically.

I had made a package reservation for October of last year. I had put the room deposit down and elected to take the trip insurance. When I went to change it to November they told me I needed to put down a new deposit because I was going to lose the deposit as they stated the deposit first went to pay for the trip insurance.

I was on the phone for over an hour with this situation to the point where they said they would need to go list to the original call. They called me back the next day and told me that they would be allowing me to change my dates with no penalty because at no time during the call did the first rep. tell me that once you put down the deposit and have trip insurance the changing of dates is severely limited. They must have repeated this to me 10 times that this was a one time allowance, ect, ect.

Mind you, this was all before my 45 day mark.

Yes you can switch dates and not lose any money.

We had to do just that last year, as one of my nieces had to have her appendix out right before our trip to WDW. We simply moved the trip to a few months later, no worries. The only caveat is it has to be a package trip to a package trip, or a room only trip to a room only trip.

Thanks for the info. We will definitely book another package if we have to change the plan and wait until next year to go.
