Please bear with my remedial questions...as much as I have traveled I have never had to cancel a flight before. I've had to change flights but never outright cancelled one.

DH and I have a trip planned to WDW in October for just the two of us. Our airfare is with JetBlue both down and back. However it is on two separate reservations -- one reservation on the way down and a different reservation on the way back.

It is looking like we may need to cancel the trip for unexpected work related reasons. We can't reschedule at this point because we don't know when we both might be able to travel again.

According to JetBlue's website they charge $100 fee for cancellations.

Here are my questions:

1) Since there are two of us on two separate reservations are we going to be charged $400 in cancellation fees ($100 per person each way)? Is so, had we booked round trip and put everything on one reservation would the cancellation fee have been $200 or $400? I guess I'm asking if the cancellation fee is per flight (each way) or per reservation? If it is per reservation do you think there is any chance that if I call them they would only charge me the $200 instead $400?

2) Also, with the first reservation on the way down we paid less than $100 per person for the airfare with taxes and fees. The all inclusive cost was $94.70. If we cancel this flight will be owe them money since the cancellation fee is $100? If we will owe them money I'm thinking we might do better to not cancel and just not check-in or show up. Any reason why we wouldn't want to do that?

Thanks in advance.....

I would call them and discuss it. You will not owe them money. They just take the fare - $100 and that is your credit on file for a future flight. So if the new flight fare is $200, you can apply $100 to a future flight. For the one under $100, there will be no credit. You have a year from the date you bought the original ticket. So if you bought the tickets on March 1, your new flight would have to be by March 1, 2011 to use the credit. Otherwise it is lost.

You should read the fare rules of your booking(s).

I just did a dummy booking to look at the fare rules and the cancellation fee for flights under $99 is $50 (not $100). Also, credits are good for one year from the date of cancellation (not booking).

The fees do appear to be per flight (so each way).
