Cancellation fees

Are there any cancelation fees for canceling your stay? Example I book at 11 month window but then something comes up later on and have to cancel. Is there a monetary or point fee taken from you?

Just trying to shore up my concerns before I start submitting serious bids on a resale. Thanks

No cancelation fees if you are booking a DVC resort. However, be aware that if you cancel within 30 days of your stay your points go into a "holding" account and must be used before the end of that use year.

Additionally, if you cancel a trip beyond your banking window for those points, they will have to be used before the end of their use year or be forfeited.

And the <30 days cancellation mentioned by OKW Lover is even a bit more complicated, because you can only use points in holding for reservations that are made 60 days or less before your travel dates (I think that's right - 60- someone can confirm).

In addition, if you borrow points for the trip, those points will now expire at the end of the UY you borrowed them for the trip.

If you are beyond your banking window, then those points will also expire by the end of the UY.

So, while there are no cancellation fees per se, there are guidelines for the points when cancellations happen. One of the reasons many of us suggest getting a UY that is just prior to your times of travel can give you a lot more options if you do have to cancel a trip at least 31 days out.

As already mentioned, if you cancel within 31 days of the trip, points, no matter what status they are, become holding points which can only be used for trips booked 60 days or less in advance and expire at the end of that UY.

If you cancel on your check-in day you forfeit all of the points used for the reservation.
