I have a UY of March. I borrowed UY 2005 points to schedule a holiday in January 2005. If I cancel the reservation, will the points revert back to my 2005 bank of points or will I have to use them before my 2004 UY ends?

TIA, Amanda

Borrowed points cannot be returned to their original use year.

If you cancel the reservation, you will need to use the points by 2/28/2005 (end of your 2004 use year) or you will lose them.

I don't think you can put them back, they would have to be used in 2004 UY. Any "regular" points could be banked though.

The banking or borrowing function is confirmed when you make the reservation. They become permanently part of that Use Year.

If you can't reschedule for another time during your 2004 use year, you might have to rent them to avoid losing completely.

Nope, can't 'unborrow' points, but as jarestel said, you can have MS use those 2005 points this year and bank your 2004 points for use next year. If that isn't an option, then renting is probably the way to go.

Wouldn't depositing the points (for a week's stay) into the II system work as well? Not necessarily the best 'disney' option, but it's an option. Given the reports of how hard it is to trade into DVC, it might be pretty easy to get a non-disney vacation of your dreams...well, maybe. :cool2:

I'm surprised you can cancel. We borrowed points for an Easter trip this year. In the meantime, we bought a new house and wanted to spend Easter week there. I sold my 200 points and cashed the check. When I went to transfer them into the buyer's account, I was told that I was not able to do it. MS told me that "Borrowed points are a final transaction," so I had to return the money and we took the trip ourselves. Now, I'm working on getting out of the borrowing cycle, but I'm losing that battle.

That's right - you cannot transfer borrowed points. However, you can make a reservation with the borrowed points and "sell" that. Just in case you run into that problem again - hope you don't, of course!

Best wishes -

I have a question on the II deposit -- can that be done with borrowed points?

I *think* so...there's nothing that I read saying you can't, but that's why I asked if depositing wouldn't work. The week deposited would be in the 'borrowed into' year, just like any other use of borrowed points.

of course, I've been wrong before.

Thanks, Joe. I guess the best thing is for me to ask MS if I consider doing it. I could kick myself that I let quite a few points expire a few years ago without exploring that option. (I didn't know it existed until a member from the UK mentioned planning a trip with her cache of II points).

I agree with Tagrel if its not to late to bank your 2004 and use your borrowed 2005 this year. you actually have until aug. 31 to bank those 2004 points, then you will get the 2004 points back march 2005 to be used before feb. 28, 2006. on banked points you can make a ressies before march 1 , 2005 but your arrival date must be after march 1, 2005.

i would not depost the points into interval, or non dvc resort, because if you can those ressies, then your points will remain in your account for non dvc ressies only. you will be more messed up then , then you are now. and actually if you go to disney once a year you will be just fine. good luck !

Well, like I said, it' snot quite the same as a disney vacation. :)

Pam, I'm hoping someone can say 'yes, he's right for once' or 'nope, he's an idiot again'...but it seems to me with the II ressies having a 2 year window and the very few DVC trades available for II members that this would be doable...after all, within 7 months and outside 60 days, a point is a point, isn't it? The key would be getting the II member match.
