Canceling Flight Tickets Purchased Through Expedia

I've always been under the impression that canceling or changing a flight costs something like $100 per ticket. Well, I found a pretty good price from Lansing, Michigan to MCO (short layover in Detroit) on Northwest on Expedia.com for May 2005. From what I can see, having never ordered through Expedia, it's only $25 per ticket to change. Does that sound right/possible?

Maybe Expedia charges $25 for their time, and the airline charges the $100??

That could very well be, my3kids. All these places have a lot of fine print. I certainly wouldn't want to find out later how much changing a ticket would cost.

Expedia is very difficult to deal with on this type of issue. They do charge an additional fee on top of what the airlines charge.

Also, if there is a price decrease you will normally not get a credit.

Thanks, CarolA. That's the kind of information I'm looking for. There's a chance we might not get to go, and I don't want to get stuck with the tickets. I would tend to book directly through Northwest Airlines, but their web site doesn't list the same flight that Expedia has on their site. I may end up calling them to ask what is up.

NW code shares with Continental, so it could be that Expedia is listing a NW code share flight that is operated by CO, and that's why it's not on NW's site. Try looking at CO's site, if they have the exact same time as Expedia, then the Expedia schedule is a code share.

I often find the same problem with Northwest's schedule when comparing it to Expedia. I, too, fly out of Lansing and it makes me crazy that the return flight I want is not on Northwest but is on Expedia. Sometimes, I do find it on Orbitz and I have booked through Orbitz with no problems. I have had to cancel/reschedule flights (though not to MCO) and they've been fine. Orbitz is operated by the airlines, unlike Expedia.

I have never tried calling Northwest to see if they can get the flight to pull up on the internet. I'd be interested to hear what you find out if you go that route.
