We are at 37 days out from our trip.
When I booked it a while back, I booked a one night room at ASMu (for DH, DS, and DSIL) in case the FP+ wasn't offered to offsiters. I was just going to go ahead and keep it, but I can't decide. We also have 2 nights booked at AOA for my daughters and I during our 2 week stay offsite that we are definitely keeping.
Has anyone cancelled a room that has gotten their magic bands?
Since they are charging for the bands for off site guests, I wasn't sure how that would be handled. The room is $107 for the night. That would save us $30 for 2 days of parking and 3 bands at $13 a piece would be $39…for a total of $69. I keep thinking I should cancel and use the $40 difference for something else. I can't cancel till we are inside of 30 days because I would lose the FP+ that we have booked at this point for my DH, DS, and DSIL.
So if I cancel the room after we are less than 30 days in, what would they do about the magic bands?

No advice from me, I am not a huge fan of ghost room reservations to get free Magic bands and access to FP+ 60 days in advance.

We are doing the same- keeping our 'ghost ressie'. I see a huge value in EMH though so we will be taking part in EMH to make up for the value :)

I have to agree with you. I'm not a fan of the ghost reservation either. If you want the perks that come with staying onsite, IE. the earlier reservation of FP then you need to be staying onsite.

I disagree. I am booking a package that includes multiple entitlements. I am choosing with entitlements I plan to use.

Squishing into a value room the size of a shoebox is not one of the 'entitlements' I want to use. I'd rather spread out at my 2 bedroom condo that is 1200sq. feet for 120/night AND get EMH and all the other perks I paid for by booking both rooms. pixiedust:

IF you pay for the room then you are right about the entitlements but unless I'm reading the original post incorrectly, the OP is thinking of canceling the room but only after the time that she won't lose the FP+s already made; that I think is wrong If I'm reading the OP incorrectly then I apologize.

I'm not convinced that you will "lose" your current FP's after you cancel, even if before the 30 day mark. I have heard rumors that the MB's are somehow deactivated after you cancel your stay, but I'm not sure if that is true either. I doubt you will find anyone to actually admit to making a onsite ressie then canceling for the MB's (see comments above), but I'm sure people do it. Have some guts, cancel the reservation then post here what happens!

I realize that many people have problems with a "ghost" reservation. I get that. I am looking for help on my question…not another huge discussion on whether it is "right" or not.
I had every intention of keeping the reservation and we were going to stay at ASMu for that night as we have not tried out that resort yet.
I am just having second thoughts now as the $40 difference could pay for a CS meal for us (or almost a CS meal).
I am close to the 30 day mark and I don't want the hassle of having the FP+ ressies we already have booked messed up and having to start all over again…that is why at this point I would wait a few more days to cancel. We have a 10 day ticket and that is a lot of changing.
My question is how would the magic band cost be handled? Our reservation is through Orbitz and I would have to cancel through them IF we do cancel.

I don't have the guts to do that;) Too much planning has gone into everything I have done so far. Figured I could get some good information her on the Dis, as CM's info is all over the place. May have to go that route and see what they say though.
