Canceling a "Disney Collection" Reservation

I know it's not a good deal to book regular resorts, what with the higher points per night and the $95 booking fee and all, but if I can't get a DVC room in early December atleast it's an option that's on the table.

Just to make sure I've got this right, should someone make a reservation at a "disney collection" resort their "vaction points" are transfered to "reservation points" and then used to book the room.

I believe I read somewhere that once transfered to "reservation points" they cannot be converted back- question is, what happens to them if for some reason I have to cancel the trip? Is it a holding account the same as if you canceled your DVC reservation? Thanks for any help yall can offer!

If you use your points for a non-DVC reservation and cancel, you will only be able to use your points for a non-DVC reservation. You won't be able to bank those points.

Do you know if there's a time frame envolved or does it work off of the use year?

I didn't see it specifically as related to reservation points, but points are points. Reservation cannot be banked, transferred or borrowed and they expire at the end of the use year they were used to make the reservation. Don't forget about the rule of four. You can't use your points to make a non-DVC reservation in the last four months of your use year.

I know as far as booking a non-DVC resort if you are using your Dev. Points you can only start 7 months out. May not be your case but is in mine.

Only if you are booking a stay outside those last four months and into the next UY. You just can't book and stay during the last four months of the year a non-DVC reservation except for DL. They currently allow that.

So with a Sept UY, I could call in August (last month of the UY) and book for next June (within the last four months, but not booked during the last four months). I just couldn't book May, June, July or Aug during those months.
