Our flight was canceled and can't rebook till Sunday. Thinking of driving How are roads from NJ down to WDW due to Sandy?

Depends on when you leave and how close to the shoreline you need to be driving. Parts of I-95 from NJ through VA are close to shoreline and heavier precipitation.

Also, there is a reason there are flight cancelations, school closings, and state of emergency being declared. Think carefully about driving - you may not be able to get gas if there are wide spread power outages

I would avoid doing so until Wed night or Thurs. this is a serious storm. Roads are to be kept clear for emergency vehicles only.

From a Florida perspective, I'd say the complete opposite. Leave as soon as you can, that way you're away from the storm.

It's moderately far in the ocean right now, so the faster you can get through DC where 95 starts to turn inland, the better you are.

STAY for now, please! You are worrying me. :scared1: Being in South Jersey also, I believe we have passed our window to leave the state. If you were going, I would not leave NJ after 7am on Monday, but I really don't think it is a great idea because this storm is sooooo HUGE, it has the potential to cover a lot of states on your travels. I would hang in NJ until at least Wednesday and then give it a try. Be careful!!!

I heard from the MD relatives that it looks like its going to be rough (I-95 corridor region).

DH and I have done I-95 after some bad storms in the past (snow, ice, hurricanes, etc) and advise you to be aware of travel conditions and not to let the gas tank get too low because some gas stations tend to lose power and a lot of trees/limbs down.

Schools have been cancelled already in MD.

Ya, let me restate. If you can't leave until the morning, stay.

I meant if you can leave, basically immediately, then do it.

This advice isn't really that safe. It's already VERY windy in NYC and the storm is hundreds of miles away. It's not going to get better until late Tuesday.

Hence the followup :)

Also, I'm a risky person. I'd rather have a a few bad hours of driving followed up by a week of fun in WDW than being hunkered down without power.

I can completely understand the other opinion though.

It's not just a few hours of bad driving - it's a few hours of dangerous driving. There will be trees blocking the road, power lines down in the road, flooding, and areas with no power. Stay home it is too dangerous.

Definitely, do not try to drive on I-95 So. now. We live in NC and the winds are already bad, heavy rain, potential for fuel outages on the 95 corridor, no power, etc.

It's too dangerous, and there will also be people out evacuating the low areas, and there doesn't need to be unnecessary people on the road.

Hunker down, and please stay safe! :goodvibes

Thank you all. Should have mentioned that we weren't planning until Wednesday morning. Still would appreciate any updates on road conditions.

Thank you all!!!!!
