cancelation?

if we book a room or rent points. how does cancellation work or is there any. we have one kid that might not go. could we cancell his dinnig plan? without penalty

Yes, if you are renting from a DVC Member or booking thru Disney, DDP reservations can be cancelled up thru a few days prior to arrival. If you are reserving thru a DVC member, be sure to allow for enough advance notice that they will have time to cancel the DDP for you.

MOST who rent points do not allow refunds for cancelations. For the DDP, it is potentially changeable or cancelable up until 48 hours or so. However, given you'd likely be working through a third party, you should do so at least a week out and you should alert the person you're renting from (if you go that route) ahead so they know they may need to change it and you know if they will or will not be available. If there's a good chance a person would not go, I would drop them now and then try to add them at the last minute if needed. Worst case scenario is you get caught up in the catch 22 of having to add them in advance vs having everyone on the plan. You'd likely end up not having them on the plan, but still better than paying for them if they are not there.
