Cancelation - what to do?

We have a trip planned for a one week stay. My wife, son and I will be in a 1BR for the week and various members of my wife's extended family will be in a separate 2BR unit at the same resort. Both rooms are booked on our points, with the 2BR unit being booked with some banked 2010 points (August use year) and some 2011 points.

The wife's family is now cancelling. This is actually a good thing. We are looking forward to a week with just the three of us.

I'm considering cashing out the points instead of just cancelling the reservation. I don't want to run afoul of the rent/trade board rules, so this post intentionally lacks specific information, but I am seeking advice on what would make the most sense - transfer the points, rent the points, or rent the reservation (which I understand cannot be done on the rent/trade boards until 30 days from the date of the reservation). Any thoughts or prior experiences and what others have done in similar circumstances would be appreciated.

You could also ask MS to reallocate the banked 2010 points to your room and save the 2011 points.

No clue on the renting your points out as I never have extra.:rotfl:

I agree with Denise. I would apply the banked points to your reservation and have them return the points to your August UY. Then you can use them through 7/31/12 or bank them for the next year.
