Cancel trip paid with gift cards

Has anyone canceled a trip that was paid with gift cards? I just did and the money did not show back on the cards right away. Does anyone know how long it takes to get put back on?

I'm not sure but perhaps you could call back and ask? Amazing how quickly merchants can grab that money from gift cards and credit cards, but when it is due back to us, it can take days/weeks!

I've seen people discuss this situation on the boards before (maybe in the resort thread?) and it took a week.

Its not the merchant holding things up...its the bank or company that manages the gift card that causes the delay.

I just recently cancelled a room only reservation when my DVC waitlist came through. I had the money back on my gift card the next day after cancelling.

how long did it eventually take?? I just canceled my trip today and I have gift cards also. I'm impatiently waiting for them to be credited back

My experience last spring was one card a day. I hopefully will learn from my experience and will combine my gift cards before making payments! We were at Disney still waiting for some to credit!

When I had to take DH off our trip in 2012, I made the call to them on Monday, and all the money was returned to the gift cards before we left for WDW on Saturday.

Thanks!! I just canceled today and a family member is buying them off of me so I'm not sitting on them. I just hope she doesn't change her mind hahaha so I'm hoping they get refunded quick!!

Mine took quite a while. I had more than 10 cards. It was more than 3 weeks before the last one was back.
