cancel reservation and banking points question

If I use this year’s points to reserve a room and then cancel my reservation before the banking deadline (and more than 30 days before the reservation), can I still bank those points or do the points have to be used in this UY?

As long as you cancel 31 days or more out from the arrival date and you are NOT within the last four months of your UY, yes you would be able to bank any bankable points.
