Cancel reservation 32 days, why holding point

I cancel a reservation for 12/29-31/13 tonight when my wait list for another resort came thru earlier this week. I counted 32 days between today to 12/29, so I went ahead with the cancellation. But the points came back holding points! Why? When I realized this, I called member service at 7:34 pm eastern time but they just closed and won't open till Friday since tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Anyone knows what happen? Does the DVC computer counts the days wrong as I thought no cancellation penalty if I cancel at 31 or more days? Help! When I call member service on Friday, will they move the points back to regular from holding? I need inputs and reassurance.

It seems to me like the system registered it wrong. As long as you did it before 7:30 eastern time, those points shouldn't be in holding. I'd just wait to call on Friday. Don't worry about it, they should be able to help you out.

I had a similar thing happen a couple of weeks ago. I emailed imediately but also called a couple of days later and they removed the points from holding.

Lily28, once you call MS and get an answer, I would appreciate your reporting the result.

This has happened to me before. It makes no sense and it can be corrected with a call to MS. But that is no explanation for why something that shouldn't happen, happens.

In my case it happened with a reservation that I had previously cancelled a few days off the start. My best guess is that somewhere in the system it was still retaining the original check in date.

Years ago, I ended up with points in holding from an August trip I supposedly canceled. I didn't have a problem with MS correct it since I insisted that there's no way I would have made a reservation to go to Florida in August! NH summers are one reason I love it up here. I wasn't happy that a reservation and then points in holding ended up in my account in the first place. But she was very nice about fixing it.

To report back on my problem. I called member service and was able to move the points back to regular points. I was told that since I cancelled the reservation on Wednesday closed to closing time of 7:30 pm eastern time and Thursday was thanksgiving, the computer might have reset the time to Friday 11/29/13 by closing time on 11/27/13. The moral of the story is do not cancel reservation near closing time and right before major holiday unless you want a heart attack like I almost have when I saw my cancel points become holding points.

Glad you got it fixed easily.

I think the CM you spoke with was just making a bad guess though. The online system is open 24 hours (except for it's daily maintenance period) and it does not reset any times like that in relation to MS hours which is what the CM made it sound like.
