Hi all, well, I'm all for putting up with refurbs during off season, but it seems the barriers are piling up in other ways. Rain, sore throats, now the pool at the DH closed? wow. :sad2: Just getting a little concerned and wondering about re-scheduling for a little later in the month. We don't mind a small rain shower or two, but sheesh, the weather is looking like it's going to be really bad. It figures. The driest year/winter in California history. Headed down to the sunshine part of the state and this? So tell me all you L.A. folks, when the weather is looking this way what do you expect? Do you expect thunder and downpours or do you roll your eyes and figure it will just be barely enough to wet the pavement?
The pessimist in me is coming out, I guess I need some disneyfied reassurance.

I love Disneyland in the rain! In fact, I scheduled my next trip (later this month) specifically because I actually enjoy rainy days at Disneyland :rotfl: It's weird, I know! The Park pretty much empties out when it rains, leaving the few of us die-hards who stay to enjoy short/nonexistant waits for the rides. The downside is that Fantasmic gets cancelled if it rains (fireworks are already not on the schedule for this month, as far as I know, but those of course get cancelled if it rains, as well).

Edited to add: While I'm not currently living in L.A./Southern California, I did live there up until 2 years ago, so my $.02 about the weather in February is this: it'll probably just be a light rain, but on the occasion of a torrential downpour, just be sure to have a good waterproof pair of shoes and an umbrella/poncho & you'll be good to go!

The last time I went to DLR when it was raining was winter of '03. My recollection is that when it does rain, it's not a torrential downpour, like in the East. The West Coast normally has a light steady rain. But what do I know? I'm sure a SoCaler can answer better than me.

I don't hate nor love rain, but too much can make me go insane. The only problem I'd have is rides breaking down in addition to the refurbs. In '03, IJA was closed several times because of the rain. :sad2:

We were there all last week and two days prior to our trip (as well as the weeks leading up to it) the forecast was rain for four of the seven days we were there. You know what? It rained the first day we got there and was 65-76 degrees the rest of the time. No rain whatsoever. Every year we go the weather report and what actually happens there has been crazy to say the least.

We did move our reservation from DLH to GC due to the pool being down. We are swimming at 65 degrees and the pool is a big deal to us. You can use the PP pool if you choose to stay at the DLH and the pool is still down.

And what was previously said, rain can be fun.........no lines, the park to yourself.

As several other posters have said the important thing to realize about Disneyland weather is that it isn't like East Coast, Midwest, Northwest or any other weather. I can't even begin to count the number of times where the weather report has come out predicting horrible rain only to have a great looking day.

Just last year I had a relative come down for a visit to the park; when we got up it had rained through the night, the skies were dark and it looked bad. We packed jackets in a backpack and headed off to have a good day which is exactly what we had. No real rain the entire day (it misted once or twice) but not many crowds either as it always looked dark out).

I've had other trips where it did rain a bit and for the most part we'd duck into a ride, go through a very short line, emerge with our jackets on and find that things had either cleared up or were light enough to keep on going.

Obviously you want to wear clothing that will do well if it gets wet as it is always possible that it could really pour but that's rare and even rarer for it to happen for multiple days. But just the threat of water is enough to keep most of southern california away. :D

I never know what to do about Rain in LA. When I used to live there, clouds in the morning didnt mean anything, often they would burn off by mid afternoon. Now when I think that though it always rains instead like its just to prove me wrong. Rain and DL can be a good thing though, in 2006 I went in Feb and it was amazing! There was only a couple of refurbs going on then (not like now) and it rained a few our in the AM and seemed to stop just as DL opened the gates! it seemed like locals werent there because of the rain making the lines even shorter. It was one of the best trips Id ever been on and for my BF's first it was magical (with the exception he still hasnt been on Haunted Mansion) so dont be to pessimistic about the rain, who knows it could just add to the magic. pixiedust:

Thanks for the re-assurance. Truly. It's been a bad morning  and the weather forecast just looked even gloomier due to that. I think it's that "right before the trip" funk that hits too (which was talked about in another thread). It's hitting HARD, and then the weather forecast. I'm trying to switch my head around and think of all the advantages to the rain. I'll get there. I appreciate you all chiming in and making me realize it probably wont be that bad. Right? :confused3
I'm in No. Cal, in an area that has pretty similar weather to So. Cal, but boy, on your news stations (via the web) they sure use some pretty gloomy graphics when there is a "possiblity of showers"
I'm originally from Oregon, Eugene, (rain central) so I should be able to deal with it you would think! I guess I was just worried about the kiddos (young teens) but, they probably wont even notice. I'll just keep chanting to myself while packing:
rain can be fun
"rain can be fun" "rain can be fun" rain can be fun"
Not working yet, but I'll keep at it!
Thanks!

Well I'm really close to you and we are going. Not changing our plans now!! We love DL in the rain, it's less crowded and they only close the teacups and Alice if it's raining. There are no parades or fireworks to cancel so no worries. We are going, taking ponchos and enjoying the parks with or without rain. And ftr, I've got 1 kid getting over a cold, 1 kid who hasn't had it yet (fingers crossed she and I don't get it!!) and DBF is home today with it and he stayed home yesterday too. So I figure we will go, if it gets bad we have a nice room to stay in but rain doesn't deter us much.
We went Jan 08 and it POURED on us......when we got back to our room we were dripping......we had to hang our clothes to dry (especially our coats), it was just bad. Anyway, we went, had NO lines, we walked right onto Nemo and every other ride we wanted to do. After that first night the weather cleared up and while we had random sprinkles it was a great weekend. We went again later in Jan and again it rained but not too bad...it sort of reminded me of being in Hawaii, only it was colder. LOL So go, enjoy it, have ponchos and/or umbrellas.....it's worth it!

I'm not cancelling either! Usually the weather in SoCal is pretty unpredictable when it comes to rain but when it does rain it's like 5 minutes at a time. I'm also just going to buy ponchos and take extra clothes. Like pixiewings said if anything we'll get more time to enjoy the hotel.

We are leaving Friday and I guess Friday is going to be 70% chance of rain!:laundy: Im kind of bummed but now I can buy a sexy Mickey poncho:thumbsup2 The crowds will be low so that is good. Who cares Im going to Disneyland:cheer2:

I'm from Tacoma, Wa and it rains here ALL THE TIME!!! So needless to say, it doesn't bother me. In fact, rain= less people. I also started to get sick:sick: and I'm leaving in 4 days.:cool1:  :cool1: I'm trying real hard to fight it by using early defense meds. Don't know if it will work, but it's worth a try. Don't cancel. Just go and have a good time!:)

Wow- there are a lot of us leaving in 3-4 days! Fun!

We've had beautiful, sunny days the past few days here in Oregon. It would be hard to leave that to be in the rain but who cares? We're in Disneyland!

We, too, are trying to get over colds. Vitamin C and Airborne are abundant in our house right now!

Well, I don't know how reliable this is, but a CM from DLH called me tonight and when I asked about the pool she said it was supposed to be back in action Thurs or Fri.

Thanks for the info DizMe. We don't check in until Monday so hopefully that will be enough time for them to get their act together. :rotfl:

Yes, Lynzer, just bought the Airborne today. It was dessert for the whole fam. after dinner tonight :rotfl:
I'm getting excited now. The Funk is offically lifting. Who cares right? Like you all said:
Who cares!!!! We're going to Disneyland!!!!!
:woohoo:
(Yo Ho Yo Ho...)

LOL! barf! We all can't stand the taste of Airborne. We all put it in the tiniest bit of water and plug our noses when we gag it down!

I'm sure you're going to have a great time. Go prepared for rain but be pleasantly surprised when the forecast changes! (fingers crossed!)

Hey- we're countdown twins (almost)!

Maybe I'll see you guys! We check in Sunday and stay until Wed! :cool1:

I'll be there too! :) How funny that so many of us will be there this weekend. :)

We don't do Airborne, it doesn't work anyway. We use Zicam and I drink EmergenC, the Zicam we do the dissolving tablets and the EmergenC I just drink with a tiny bit of water. So far so good....DD12 and I are doing OK and DD9 and DBF are getting better!

I need to get ponchos for the kids but I'm considering waiting until we get there, just to see the weather. The chance of rain Friday is 55%, Saturday is 50% and then it drops significantly for Sunday & Monday. :)

Well, I think it's more about how the weather reporters report the rain and our attitude overall towards rain in So. Cal. You don't even want to see how So. Cal'ers drive in the rain! haha! We just don't know how because we don't have to do it very often!

If I hear, "Showers," I'm in for the day. I avoid going ANYWHERE. I hate the rain, I can't tell you where my umbrella is (because I have not needed it in how long?!), and I just plain hate the rain.

I just don't like the rain. When it rains, I only go out for the absolute necessities. If I can find a way around stepping outside, I do it!

When we went to WDW, the rain drove us crazy. It rains and then stops an hour later. How do people function in that everyday??? When it rained, we ran inside for cover until it stopped. Yep! Rain wimps!

When it rains a little down here, they report the weather as "storm hits So Cal." We DO get thunderstorms, but not often, and we do get true rain, but if you are from Oregon, you will be just fine here. I have family in Portland and just have no clue how you people do it up there - I would never leave the house!

Yes, yes, I know it's how things get green and it keeps the fires away, but that's why I pay a sunshine fee on my mortgage every month! :lmao: (Little joke between me and my DH about how much we pay to live in So. Cal!)

Hope this helps put it in perspective,
Dreams (who somehow miraculously lived in London for a year!)
