If I need to cancel the last 1-2 days of a 10 day room only reservation, is there a charge to do this?

Also, any risk in losing the room type / view we have reserved?

Thanks,
Brian

Disney has made it harder to do this. Last I checked, they required the new length stay to be available. That said, they have made exceptions for some, so all you can do is call and ask.

You can also try to edit your reservation online and see what happens. Room inventory is sometimes available only by “changing” an existing reservation (as opposed to making a new one altogether).

As mom2rtk posted, they have made this much harder and they want you to cancel you existing reservation and re-book. A lot of times they will forward you to guest services, since they are the ones with the power to say yay or nay. You will not be able to this online.

I recently had to do this and it was a much bigger pain than I anticipated. I thought it would be as easy as modifying the reservation and roping the last couple of days. I called and a cast member helped me but it took a few days for the system to change my dates and for my balance to be adjusted.

Thank you. Was hoping it would be like a regular hotel stay in that you could cancel the end of trip with no problems. Sounds like it is more difficult than that and I need to be more certain of my dates before booking.

Disney’s terms that changing your reservation is subject to availability and the rate applicable at the time you change are set forth pretty clearly when you book a room.
It used to be easier, but alas, so many people were booking speculative lengthy stays then pruning to fit when they firmed up their plans that Disney instituted steps to curtail that practice. At present, unlike many places, WDW resorts have extremely high occupancy rates and, unlike many hotels were 1 or 2 night stays are the norm, longer stays are more common at WDW. When someone cancels 1 night from a longer stay it’s tougher for WDW to rerent a single night compared to a longer stay. I see a similar practice with hotels on the coast near where I live for popular weekends where there are 2 or 3 night minimum stays.

Actually, what Disney is doing is exactly how "regular" hotels operate. Every major hotel chain uses this practice. Essentially, if you want to modify a reservation, you must adhere to the current restrictions. This practice is done to keep people from knowingly getting around minimum stay requirements.

I worked in hotels during the 90s and early 2000s. We operated in this fashion way back then. I later went to work at Disney World and was utterly flabbergasted to learn that Disney simply let guests make reservation modifications at will.

It took them several decades, but Disney finally came in line with industry standards. I get that most people don't like this "new" restriction, but it is how all chain hotels operate.
