Cancel at 23 days, what do I lose?

I've got a package reservation for Nov 3rd for 3 nights that I might want to cancel. I might be able to rent DVC points and get my family into a grand villa for around the same cost. What would I lose cancelling this early? I read someplace 200 dollars? If so, how close to arrival does that hold? Probably won't end up doing this, but want to look at the possibility if everything were to be available.

Thanks,

Roveer

"Cancellation of Reservation - If the reservation is cancelled amounts paid, minus cancellation fees, vacation insurance plan cost, and other amounts owed, will be refunded. For cancellations made 44 days or less prior to guest arrival, there is a cancellation fee of $200 per package, plus any cancellation fees assessed by third party hotels or other suppliers. No refunds are given for cancellation of a Grand Gathering experience made 6 days or less prior to the experience date."

Straight from the WDW website. You might want to read the confirmation they sent you for your reservation, it should have the cancellation rules in it. Room Only reservation rules are much more lenient.

You could consider re-scheduling your original package to avoid the cancellation fee. Even if you are unsure of when you are going to go again. If you re-schedule and the cost of the new trip is the same or more than your original trip cost, they won't charge you any fee. If it's less, they will charge you $50. If you think you might go again, I would simply reschedule for a random date. You can keep re-scheduling with that same $200 deposit until you finally figure out when you want to go again!

I was in a similar situation last year. We had booked a Disney hotel, but our DVC waitlist came through with less than 45 days to go. I called Disney and they actually waived the $200 fee because I was still staying on property just not at the original hotel. I just changed my reservation for this November from 3 room to 2. At first, she said I would be charged the $200 fee, but after checking with management, Disney waived the $200 fee and only charged me the $50 fee to change a reservation. Call and ask. Hopefully, they will be just as accommodating with you. Good luck!

Unless you're renting someone's existing reservation, the odds of your getting a grand villa at 23 days are very, very slim. There are not a lot of them, and members snap them up at 11 months out.
