Canadians Traveling to the USA in 2025

Does anyone know if tariffs apply on what would, in normal times, be duty free items? There are a couple of Disney loving senior citizens at my church who can no longer travel, so I always bring back some Disney edibles for them as a treat.
When I read the bold part I was wondering what pavilion was selling edibles....ROFLOL...plus even though they are not tariffed I don't think bringing edibles one way or the other is good. Good on the seniors....lol

Just don't forget that a lot of us are making some huge* sacrifices so you can get those good deals. And yes. We also love Disney and hate that we had to cancel our June trip. I say *huge but honestly that's a stretch lol.

A very modest I'm not going to die sacrifice but feel good being able to make some minor recripcol economic punishment that I know that some in the auto sector here will face. Will be a pretty crappy spring and summer and more for them. Least I can do.

How about Japan? We were just at Tokyo Disney and Universal Osaka last month and we all agreed it was our best trip ever! Very friendly, super safe and (except for the flights) much cheaper with Cdn money. The only downside is that my family liked the Japanese parks so much more that going back to the American ones will be a major downgrade.
I have to agree with you. The cost difference just boggles the mind. Hong Kong Disney was a little more. And have to say some of the Hong Kong and Tokyo only rides make it so awesome. Depending on when you go hotels for triple rooms can be around 150 with breakfast in Tokyo as long as you book right when they open.

OK, I admit I could have worded that sentence better. I actually bring back some Mickey Mouse cookies, and some of the Mickey shaped coconut thingamabobs dipped in chocolate.

Interestingly, I know of at least two women in my congregation, aged 80+, who take cannabis in some form (liquid, I think) as a treatment for arthritis. Both say the treatment is very effective.

This mom/grandma uses the Cannabis skin cream for a torn rotator cuff pain and it really works.

I posted in a previous thread that I would allow temporary discussions about how the current environment impacts decisions on traveling to Walt Disney World and Disneyland. First, I apologize to the OP for the derailment. I meant well, but it did not work.

This is the ONLY thread dedicated to Canadian residents, and it is the only place where members can discuss this topic openly and without personal attacks on other members.

I will personally monitor and respond to reports.

I wanted to post my thoughts on this topic. As a DVC member who used points and Air Miles for this upcoming trip, we decided to go since it would be a loss to not. This trip was booked in November. As a Canadian, I am deeply hurt by the events and I don't think the trust will ever be the same. I know many Americans are supporting us fully. My beef is with the government. Our sovereignty is being threatened and this does not sit well with me. I have made many changes by buying Canadian and avoiding American products as much as possible. I will be spending my $ overseas and booked a trip to Fiji. As for DVC, we are putting future trips on hold.

Just booked PEI for our week long summer vacation instead of the US as we usually do. It's been 22 years since we were last there and we are so looking forward to exploring that beautiful island. From the moment we leave our house until we return every dollar we spend will be in Canada supporting Canadians. Many people must have the same idea because hotel availability was already limited for a continuous 7 nights stay (Cavendish). We also cancelled plans for a 2 week Disney vacation in January 2026 for a milestone birthday.

Wanted to report a recent driving experience for those who are wondering. We drove through Windsor/Detroit to St. Petersburg & Orlando (I-75) at the beginning of April. We looked into cancelling our trip, but we would have lost 50% of our VRBO, so we decided to go.

Honestly, there were no issues at all. The US & Canadian border agents were friendly and polite, and the drive down was uneventful. We made a point to stop and stretch for breaks every 2 hours (we are in our 50s and didn't want to get sore lol) and had nothing but good interactions with everyone. We chatted with several people in St. Pete and everyone was lovely. Politics never came up.

I saw maybe ONE Ontario plate driving down, about 5 when we were in Florida, but many driving back along i-75 to Canada. Several from Quebec and the Maritimes on the way back too. Likely Snowbirds driving home.

We love traveling to the US but won't be back until things settle down. If you are in a similar situation and uneasy about the drive down, we felt safe and had a great visit to Florida.

You will love PEI,,,just budget enough for COWS icecream daily...lol

Hi, we cancelled our March trip, supposed to fly out tomorrow! Mostly because of my DW medical issues combined with the added stress of the political situation. Had coffee today with three friends who all love going to Florida, only one is still going as he has a condo rented. He too is worried about the drive down. As we are all 65 plus we were joking we can’t wait 4 years to go! Need to find another place to winter vacation.
Think about Mexico. Puerta Vallarta. Beautiful town and people. Reasonably priced

Cavendish always books up almost a year out. I go camping there every summer, and we book the following year at check out.

We start in Quebec City, then Charlottetown, Sydney, Halifax, Porland ME and finally Boston. It's a one way tour. 7 days, first two days are on the St Lawrence river.
