Have there been any Canadians here that have rented dvc points for stays at the resorts in WDW.
If so how was your renting experience and did it go smoothly? Did you pay the rentor using paypal??

The easiest scenario would be for you to rent from one of the nunerous Canadian DVC members so there would be no issue about exchange rates.

Im more concerned about rentors not renting to us because we are not in the US.
I like to think Im a very honest person, I do have a reputable 4 year ebay history as a reference. The only thing is I will not be able to send the rentor a cheque from my canadian bank, I will only be able to use Paypal if the rentor resides in the US. Plus I have seen a couple of times the rentors state a higher price per point if you pay by paypal?? Im not too sure why that is.

The reason for the higher rate with paypal is because of the charges for the use of paypal or a credit card. I am quite sure owners would expect the payment to be in American funds, and it is possible to do that at a lot of banks. You should be able to purchase a money order in American funds if you are renting from a US owner. I still think the simplest thing would be to rent from a Canadian DVC owner.

Ok, thanks for clearing up the paypal question. I wasnt aware there were charges and it makes complete sense to pass the charges onto the buyer.

I know that when i have paid for something using paypal in the past from a US seller on ebay, paypal will take the US amount and convert it to canadian, retrieve that amount from my account, convert it back to the US amount and deposit in the sellers account. It is all very convenient.

That would certainly be a good reason to deal with folks who use Paypal.

We are Canadian and rented from a great fellow in the US.

It was as easy as pie!!

He confirmed the reservation for us and we used Paypal for payment.

It specifically asks what currency you want to pay in and it's that simple.

We had a great trip to OKW in April and would not hesitate to rent again.

It really makes no difference whether you are in Canada or the US as a renter, just that you are honest and the person renting you the points is honest.

We had the DVC confirmation e-mailed to us from the owner of the points and all went very smoothly.

Good Luck

We are now looking to buy DVC!!! This could be an expensive proposition for you as well!!! Look Out!!!

I rented to someone from England recently(she should be at WDW now!), so I don't see any reason why a Canadian couldn't rent points. The renter went thru PayPal, so it was easy for both of us. Actually, the hardest part was figuring out how to get the confirmation to her in enough time so that she had it when she checked in. It turns out that FAX is the way to go, you just need to find someone who knows how to do it (which, it appears, is everyone in the world except me)

I have also rented to someone in the U.K., and we used PayPal. It was quite easy. We did the contract thing via scanner and email, and that's how I got her the confirmation, too. International PayPal transactions cost 3.9%.

It was no problem.

They wrote me a USD personal check. But if they hadn't, I would have used paypal...

So I don't think you'll have a problem. Just get a contract.

Best,
Goldi
