Canadian Weight Loss Thread!

So trainer came over this morning and was pretty nice to me today, even though it still hurt. He sais starting next week he may get a bit meaner with me...let's hope he was kidding! Weighed in today and lost 1 lbs since monday....was hoping for more, but that is only 5 days worth.

Way to go everyone! Good first week!

Guess what everyone??? I just registered for the full marathon at Disney World for 2009! I'm really hesitant about it, but usually when I'm registered in something, I do it!!

Wish me luck in my training! It's going to be very hard!

:thumbsup2 WTG!!! You can do it!!!!:cheer2:

Chris Jo ~ You are my hero! I would love to do a marathon....but I'm not a great runner. I do about 5k in one hour on my treadmill. S

Excellent Jo...... good for you. YOU CAN DO IT !!!

Congrats to Retiredkid and ChisJo on your losses! Congrats ChisJo on signing up for the Marathon. I'm envious!

It really is going to be hard training for the marathon....that's a very long distance, but I figured that you get to stop and interact with the characters and you get to take photos while your running the race, and you get to run through all the parks in the morning - I really am excited but really scared at the same time at the time I just dedicated for myself to do this! The other thing that scares me is if I complete it, I know I'll get lazy right afterwards, so I will have to continue to sign up for all of these races and hopefully continue on with my healthy lifestyle!

This morning, I am going to go on the treadmill and run (I cannot wait for the snow to melt so I can run outside!!!). Last night I just read this article in People magazine (I think it was a January issue) about 8 people who last a combined total of 1700 lbs! One guy went from 505 lbs to 207 lbs, and is now a black belt karate teacher! That was totally inspirational! Anyways, have a great morning everyone! The first week is done - and I already feel better and more energetic than I did a week ago! Keep up the good work!

Need a suggestion...when a recipe calls for butter, does anyone know a good substitute?

Try Celeb from Presidents Choice. :)

I would like to join your thread to help me loose more weight. We leave for DW on march 06th and so far all I lost was 6.5 pounds. My initial goal was to loose 20 pounds from Jan 01st to March 06th to sit around 229 pound mark. Is there still time for me to get there or is this not a realistic goal? I have to admit it did take me a while to get serious with this one. Last year I was 255 pounds on Jan 01st and left for DW having lost 20 pounds to sit around 235.

I would be just as happy at 235 or less before our trip but the less the merrier.

Can I get any suggestions. I also intend to post as often as I can to keep the motivation up.

P.S. Thanks everyone for their posts of advice, encouragement and support.

:yay:  :cool1: :yay:  :cool1:

If its for something hot, ...veggies baked potato, popcorn...I use the becel spray. not bad at all.
for baking, believe it or not, you can substitute applesauce or (gerber) prunes.
i will try to find the website.

Hi again. Ok, what do all yous do when your sick/achy with a cold? While trying to diet, I just NEED comforting food. It is VERY cold outside and I had to go to the grocery store. Brrrrr.

Chicken soup and a couple of crackers for comfort food!

Thanks for that, I will definately use that in the future - what about for something like a supper recipe? For example, I just made a hammerhead trout recipe that called for 3 tbsp butter to be added at the end of simmering. I didn't add it at all and it still tasted great, but was wondering if there was any sort of substitute - would that becel spray work?

By the way - if you like this fish, the recipe I made was SO good (and easy)...I will share it if anyone is interested!

Exactly what Sandray said! Try a low sodium soup (if you have some), or a veggie soup - both good and low in fat! Also, make sure you still eat and intake lots of fluids! Hot tea is good (don't drink coffee - this is a diuretic and will actually draw fluid out of your body!). Whenever I'm sick, I need ice cream. I actually started getting frozen yoguart or sorbet...there are so many good flavours out there (Haagen Daz has this raspberry sorbet that is to DIE for!). If I can't stomach that, I try a fruit smoothie.

But, first and foremost....get your rest. This is the best thing you can do for your body. With any virus, it needs to make it's way out of your body naturally and rest is the best thing your body needs to fight it out.

As for comfort food....I love the fruit and veggie bars...LOVE them. I let myself have one a day as one of my snacks. I also get rice crackers. There are these ones with sea salt and vinegar and they are SO good and taste just as good if not better than salt and vinegar chips (my favorite). Popcorn freshly popped with raisons and almonds is good too. I made a homemade fat free ranch dip and it works for many things (baked potato chips, veggies, etc). Pretzels work too. I love cereal, so when I have a craving for something crunchy, this is another thing that works for me. Smoothies are great too! Get some frozen fruit from the grocery store, and some fat free yoguart (source is really good), put these in the blender with a little bit of skim milk and blend - yummy! You can also put some protein powder in there if you want the extra protein!

Hope you feel better soon! :woohoo:

I have had to adjust a few dietary changes given to me last week. I need a little motivation to get the extra pounds off...and Disney will be the pay off. Hope you don't mind me jump :yay: on the bandwagon and joining you.

Sorry, but I couldn't find the site, but here is an article. hope it helps some, at least

Interesting article...thanks for posting. Today, I had a little bit of an off day as I wasn't at home unexpectantly for the whole day and we were eating on the go! So, needless to say, I didn't eat as well as I should have and I didn't work out! So, I don't feel as good as I normally do at this time.

But, good news! I got to pick up my new car today! So excited! It's so pretty and it goes pretty good too!

lucky you! a new car!! And don't worry about yesterday. That kinda stuff happens to all of us. Don't fee bad. Today is another day and you can get right back on track. ;) I just remembered another thing to substitute for oils/fats is pureed pumpkin. I will keep looking for that site.

Cheers!

Does anyone live in or around Edmonton on this thread??? I would like to get a team together for the Easter Seals 24 hour relay on June 21-22 if anyone is interested!
