Canadian Tire ?

Background: This post is coming from someone who lives in the US, and who's only exposure to Canadian Tire has been commercials on HNIC.

That being said, judging from the commercials, it seems you can get just about anything there, and the prices are reasonable. Is this true? Are the stores open 24 hours a day? If I had to drive through Canada anyways, would it be worth my time to stop and take a look?

Canadian Tire is a sporting goods/automotive store, and also carries home repair/decor items...

A "WalMart on Wheels"...

Around here, Canadian Tire is jokingly referred to as "Crappy Tire"
When the bigger store opened, "New Crappy Tire Store, same crappy service"...

I just picked up a three-seater swing on sale for $149, and the Garden Centre is good too... www.canadiantire.ca

we only go to Canadian Tire for automotive needs, that is oil, filters etc. They do, like the adds claim, have much more but as a frequent cross boarder crosser, we still like Target much better.

They certainly are something of a Canadian institution -- most are individually owned by franchisees, although I do believe there are some corporate owned stores around. If you do stop and shop, you will begin a process that will never end -- the presence of Canadian Tire money floating around your vehicle. They give reward money in "cash" that is spendable only at Canadian Tire -- consider it a thanks for spending cash at Canadian Tire.
The stores are not open 24 hours but they are still a good source for hardware, automotive supplies, sporting goods, home renovation supplies, lawn & garden, etc., etc. And there is always a sale.

What I don't like about Canadian Tire most of the time is the way the stores are set up - very crowded. But I don't think I've ever gone in looking for something and not found it unless it was out of season. Gardening supplies, fishing or camping supplies, BBQ's, bikes, swing sets, toys in general, auto parts, cleaning supplies, lamps, plumbing supplies, light bulbs galore - some that I couldn't find elsewhere including Wal Mart. I've found all sorts of things at Canadian Tire after running to two or three other stores trying to find it.

And they have started this year. If your are getting married you can open a bridall registry at CAnadian Tire.

We've got two new beautiful Canadian Tires near us. They are huge. They are basically like a smaller Home Depot minus the lumber and plus the automotive, a few toys, some sports equipment and housewares. There are some very good buys to be had.

I love Target too and always make sure I visit when in the US.

Or, looked at another way, they're Target or Walmart without the clothes, and heavier on the automotive stuff.
