Okay, so, we know our registry plans here, but we wanted to do something that's in Canada for all of Nic's family up there.

Where do we do it? I know there's Sears in Canada, but do they even have a registry? Also, we're hoping for somewhere, if possible, that would have a store here, too, that we could just go and register and it'd be viewable there, even though we scanned the stuff here. Is that even possible?

Someone Canadian help us! :rotfl:

Yes Sears has a registry here and I know Walmart does too, but other than that there aren't too many stores that we have in both countries that you would register for a wedding. There are some US registries that you can register on and have Canadians give gifts. Unfortunatley it's a hit and miss thing. We had the opposite of you, Most of DH's family is in the states and majority of them were able to give us a gift through our registry.

Some of DH's family though just thought that it would be a good idea for us to give them a list of what we were looking for.
We sent out a "list" of items that we were going to register for on a decorative piece of cardstock that matched our invitations. They then emailed us when they purchased something off our list so we wouldn't get doubles and then shipped it themselves.
Sounds kind of tacky I know, but they really wanted to give us something other than money and they all thought that it was a really good idea.
Others just bought gift cards for the stores they know we shop at in the states.

Another thing is to talk to the store you want to register with and double check that people from outside the U.S. can purchase items.
Make sure though that you get your answer from more than one person.
We had a few places tell us that it was no problem only to find out that it wasn't true.

And of course you could register with Disney Honeymoons and use that just for people outside the country.

Hope this helps :goodvibes

Oh there are a couple of US websites that ship to Canada like, Crate & Barrel, Williams-Sonoma and Cooking.com. So I don't see why they wouldn't let Canadians purchase registry items.

I asked about something similar at The Pottery Barn, and it's not always an easy solution - but i was asking the reverse...

I asked if we could put things on our registry here in Canada, and let the US guests go purchase items and we'd pick them up in our local store, or have them delivered.

They couldn't do it, however. The US and Canadian stores are seperate, and purchasing from one did not equal purchasing from the other. I don't know if that's the case for all stores, but that was their policy.

Along a similar line, if I ordered shoes from say "naturalizer.com" and had them delivered to me in Canada, (paying duty and taxes - ouch) I could NOT return them to a Naturalizer store here in Toronto, I'd have to ship them back to the states.

Basically, cross-border stuff is fraught with red tape, they'd be better off sending you a cheque (check). Even gift cards don't always translate across the border...
