Canadian @ Par Deal

To Tiger926:

I would like to comment on your reply to Peter Fuzessery. Who dropped from this earth and made you drama queen Tiger926? While I agree the details weren't clear. It was confusing because he wasn't getting the same information everytime he called back. You just have to look at the number of posts that this situation gets. Your question to Peter was: Why is it Disneys problem that you spent extra money that it sounds like you don't have? You obviously Tiger926 have insight that none of us are priviledged to have? Your comments were condescending and rude. You went on to say that "I urge you to use the knowledge that you gain from these boards to better educate yourself for future travel". And again when you said "I don't think you'll be going to Disney anytime soon". How rude! Obviously you are someone who thinks they are better educated and plain "better" than everyone else. :earsgirl: Your comments lead me to believe that I would be better educated to overlook anything you have to post and so would everyone else. To Peter, don't be disheartened. Many people have had a problem with their bookings, being quoted one thing only to call back and be told something else. You aren't alone. You will learn that some people on the boards can be helpful, while others clearly like to "feel important". Good Luck Peter.

Well I appreciate all the details.

I called again friday evening to talk to a manager and that is when they informed me that they are instructed not to compensate anyone. How unfair, how cheap!

Oh well. I was a bit put off at first by FatCow, but now that i see so many people coming to my defense in regards to his tone of message, I am relieved that I am not the only one.

I have come to accept that I am goingto have to pay the difference now. I dont know how yet, but if I want to go then I have to pay. I cant wait, since ive had a long hard winter just liek the groundhog. My kids are excited and we still all have to wait till May.

I just want to keep this from happening to anyone else. It seems to unfair and all the managers that I have talked to just dont care and dont understand. There has got to be a wal to ring someones bell and give them a wakeup call that they cant just mess with everyone and expect to get away with it. Then again, Im no lawyer and just dont have the time.

I thank everyone that has defended my position though, its great to finally be understood even though im rather long winded and confusing.

Huh? People coming to your defense to MY TONE OF MESSAGE?

Only one person is 'defending you against another's tone of message' and it was bmt337 againt tiger926. No "fatcow" there.

Now I know the basis of your problem. You just don't read carefully. You form an opinion and let all the facts be damned.

I still don't get it why Disney should compensate you. Based on the Canadian-at-Par contract, what you're being charged is correct. Should somebody else says otherwise (especially not in writing), it can not be argued in the court of law, therefore no company is going compensate you. Especially when the problem lies in miscommunication and NOT misrepresentation.

Go ahead and call any lawyer you want, you have no case here.

I guess some people needs to be right and compensated.

Living in Canada for the past 12 years I learn only one thing. If it is written in the contract, I should abide by the contract, and not by this or that company's reps' saying.

I didnt ask for someone to hassle me about why im an idiot for asking for someones help. Also I work in the customer service industry and do very very well. I may not be able to type or spell very well but I have been a proud canadian for 31 years.

I know the difference between miscommunication and misrepresentation. 2 Reps told me the same thing. As was the case with another person who posted a few hours ago. So Im not the only one. So who cares! I just feld lied to since onbiously the people who explained it to me dont know what they are talking about.

I had seen others confused about the situation. Also due to the missleading info, I paid some other things that used the money that they told me I wouldnt need for the trip. Now I dont have that money based on what 2 people confidently explained to me. No who doesnt understand the calculation. I did until they confused me. Thats not my fault. They take reservation and payment, I counted on them to know what they were doing.

I was never rude, I was never angry. I didnt even ask for anything until an hour and a half in the talk with the manager and he still didnt understand what i was telling him. I was speaking clear english not southern drawl either.

Anyways, Im paying 1849.88....somehow...just doesnt feel right how they can get away with missleading customers and then just saying OOPS Im Sorry, HAVE A NICE TRIP!

BTW: how do you add the time to your trip at the bottom of your post.

Thank You and have fun on your trip.

Hi Peter,

I just wanted to offer a way to save a little bit of money. Depending on what time you are arriving or leaving on your arrival or departure day you might consider changing your at par reservation for that ONE NIGHT to a room only reservation. This is especailly helpful if you are not arriving till late afternoon or leaving in the morning. On the cdn at par package you are paying tickets for a full day in the park on both your arrival and your departure day. You can book a room only reservation at the same resort and ask the agent to link the reservation to your package vacation. I would then fax the hotel front desk directly a couple of days before you arrive to request that you don't have to change rooms. I have done this for my clients a couple of times and it has always worked out so they don't have to change rooms and saved them a couple of hundred dollars depending on the resort.

I have to agree that the wording Disney used on this Cdn at Par deal is confusing. I hope if they do it again that they advertise it as a 30% discount. It is not unusual to get the wrong information for the Disney call center attendants. I can see how this could be very frustrating. I personally always figure out how much I think the deal should be then call the call WDW travel if they do not give me the price I am expecting I will call back again and again to confirm. REcently I was ordering 4 day park hopper passes and I talked to 4 different agents and got 4 differnt prices.

Hope this helps and I hope you have a great vacation. Please try not to let this taint your view of the WDW it truly is a great vacation destination.

Ive been there 2 times since 1994...and once when I was a kid ....I love the parks. this is the first time im taking the kids.

I wish they would give a better written explanation of how they calculate the AT PAR. I understand and its the Simple method thats correct.

Original Disney price for US residents =.69 give the At Par price.
Once you convert that to Canadian and pay by Visa, thats your Canadian Dollar Price. So dependign ont he canadian dollar depends on how much better or worse the actualy cost is. Either way its even bettern than what the US residents pay.

Im still happy. Actually Im going out with the family to get a 2004 Disney Park Guide from Indigo.

Wonder what I should do now for my Daughters 7th Birthday. Its in the middle of our disney vacation.

Any Ideas?

Thanks Everyone.

Sorry if you took my post as rude, but that was not my intention at all. I was directly responding to Peter Fuzessery's post - and I am not a drama queen, nor do I think that I'm better than anyone else. I was responding to his words - he used words like, "...cheat...crooked...trying to get my money." Therefore my comment that he more than likely won't be visiting Disney anytime soon, was based on his words - since he feels this way, chances are he won't be visiting anytime soon, I know this would be the case if I were as upset as him.

Also, my comment about using the knowledge gained on these boards is very matter of fact - if he would have read through a few posts regarding the Canadian At-Par deal first before posting, none of us would even be having this conversation in the first place as these boards are a fantastic way of gaining knowledge for present and future travel. The specifics to the At-Par deal may be a little confusing at first, but they are plainly posted on tv commercials, mailed advertisements (I have 2 sitting next to me right now), on the Disney website, on this website, etc... That being said, I do believe that the CM could have made a mistake, just like it could be possible that he misunderstood - either way, the wrong amount was quoted to him, and that's not a huge deal since it's something that can easily be corrected. Unfortunately, he spent the money in regards to the error, and that is not Disney's problem at all. Basically all Disney has to do is correct the amount - should they have been more polite? Absolutely. Could they have offered some other small type of compensation? Perhaps - but they do not need to do this. My question is this: I wonder if they had underquoted Peter F. would he have called them and told them about an extra $600.00 discount? Please don't misunderstand and think that I am commenting on his character as I would never do this as I don't know him, but my point is that most people feel it necessary to comment, complain and post about negative experiences, but not as many people do so about positive experiences!

The fact remains that no one knows what another person's purpose to posting is when they post. This is his 1st post, so he could be honestly trying to warn others, or, portray Disney in a negative light to others based solely on his experience alone. I have been a member of these boards for several years, and as I've learned, the hardest thing with an Internet message board is tone and purpose for posting. It's much easier to communicate in person, than by keyboard. I do not want to get into a fight with you, but your post was very rude and ignorant, but I am not going to judge all future posts by you because of your response to me in this particular thread. I have a love of Disney (as most of us here do), and love helping as many people as I can on these boards, and that is why I responded to Peter F in the first place - I did not respond in order to be insulted by you - all this does is make these boards an unfriendly and judgmental place. The fact remains that I (as others in this post did) directly responded to what Peter F posted - I am sure that is why he posted here in the first place.

As I said in my original message, I do hope that Peter F enjoys his vacation, and gets all of the details worked out so that he and his family enjoy their time in Disney World.

Hi Peter,

For your daughters birthday I would suggest trying to get reservations to one of the princess breakfasts (if she likes princesses.) WE did this for my daughters 5th birthday, the princesses were great with her plus they had our table decorated with disney glitter. Check out the restaurant board for tips on making reservations for Cinderellas breakfast you need to make the reservations EXCATLY 90 days in advance at 7:00am in the morning. It is well worth it if you can get them. Make sure when you make any dining reservation you let them know it is her birthday the restaurants will usually have a cupcake for her. You can also order a special cake if you want. Make sure you also let room reservation know it is your daughters birthday you might get a signed photo in your room Also stop at City hall in the magic Kingdom and pick up a birthday button. Cast member will recognize it and wish her happy birthday and she may even get some special treats.

Hope that helps,

Allison

I don't want to fight with you either. The truth is the boards are here for all of us. The perfect and not so perfect. Peter may have used the word "crooked", what he was referring to was the inability to get a straight answer and the same quote. It certainly must feel that way to some people. He was frustrated, as a lot of people would have been under the same circumstances. If his typing isn't perfect, it doesn't matter. Not everyone is adept at the keyboard. The difference is I wouldn't have said anything. You probably have a wealth of information to share with the rest of us, but theres a way to express it without making someone feel that they don't measure up.

I think what this post demonstrates is that when WDW advertises deals like this in big splashy advertising campaigns the least they can do is have informed CM who can give you a straight answer on booking, such as "Is this my final amount in US or CDN funds???".This really doesn't seem so dificult to me considering that they do bookings for people from all over the world every day. I think it is fair to say that there was definately a miscommunication to Peter in this instance and that it is a little disappointing to him that this confusion lead to a miscalculation of funds and therefore spending money for their trip. I've also had difficulty booking with WDW direct so I now do it right on this board through DreamsUnlimited.NO muss,Nofuss and the quote states directly "in US funds". I just booked my trip to POP two days ago 1760.02 US for 7 nights 3 people Spring DreamMaker Package (dd is 10 now not a kid in WDW eyes anymore so her pass is a youth price now) paid by VISA same day exchange rate of 75 cents CDN for a grand total of 2200.02. We arrive March 1st!!!Not a moment to soon!!!Peter take heart we've all been confused by stuff like this before but soon you'll be on your way to making some Magical Memories with your family and don't forget....we're all here because we enjoy WDW and we look forward to seeing you continue posting (I see your up to 11 already...keep 'em coming!!!!) Have a wonderful vacation!!!!:teeth:  :teeth:

Peter,

Just want to let you know that the EXACT same thing happened to my family last year. The CM we booked with quoted us a total that was supposed to be in Canadian dollars. My husband asked her 3 times if the total price she was quoting was going to be billed in Canadian dollars or US dollars. The CM assured him 3 times that she was quoting the Canadian amount. My husband then added two more days to the trip now that it was even cheaper than first thought. So we were quite shocked when we got our Visa bill and it was in US dollars. After relentlessly calling, leaving messages, being ignored, finally talking to the manager (that took three weeks) and then finally speaking to a supervisor we were told that the CM had made the mistake but there was absolutely nothing they could do for us. We cancelled our reservation and stayed at the Royal Plaza Hotel in Downtown Disney. We didn't save a lot of money but it was the principle. We felt totally scammed. My husband is still not over it. There is nothing worse than people on this board who didn't hear the conversation you had with the CM telling you that YOU were confused. You were not confused, we were not confused, Disney was confused. I am shocked at some of the rude messages you recieved.

Hi Peter,

Now that (hopefully) the fuss has died down regarding your post I just want to say welcome to the DIS. :wave2: It really is a great place to learn & discuss Disney. I know exactly how you must feel though. I've had several CMs tell me that they're quoting me in Canadian $ when I call about the "Canadian At Par", but because I know so much from this Board, I know they don't have a clue what they're talking about (I had one CM tell me the other day that if I was on the DIS I would probably know about new codes/rates/specials etc. before she would. )

Please don't let some "harsh" posts scare you off because this is the absolute best place in the world to get information for your trip to Disney. Believe me, your trip will be much more enjoyable because of what you learn here on the DIS. :)

PS. The tone of this thread is rare for us over here on the Canadian Board...we're usually pretty meek & polite. ;) Hope you stick around. :)

The interesting thing is re this promotion, my invoice from WDTC does not state the cost is in US dollars. However, it is written on my invoice (immediately above the total) that the package was booked on "Canada At Par".

This leads to much confusion.
